If the page accepts drops only inside a small region, target_position selects a point relative to the target padding box. If the page depends on intermediate mouse movement, steps controls the number of mousemove events. steps requires Playwright Python 1.57 or later.

The carousel uses a simplified job board with example HTML IDs. Browser setup is assumed. The 48-pixel drop position belongs to the illustrated strip, not every website. Keep the layout stable before measuring and remeasure after layout changes. The drag examples are alternatives; reset the card between attempts.

HTML5 drag data is a separate thing to inspect if the normal action fails. Direct event dispatch is a different test path from a full mouse gesture.

How would you automate drag and drop?

Start with a concrete task: move a job card from Considering to Applied. Locate the card (source) and receiving column (target), then try the built-in drag.

If it fails, check the selected elements and page readiness. Then investigate where the drop is accepted, how the pointer must move, and whether the drop expects an item ID. Verify that the same card is in the destination and absent from its original column.

The carousel uses a simplified example page with HTML IDs qa-card and applied. Selenium and Playwright snippets are alternatives, with the browser already open; the Selenium example assumes By and ActionChains are imported.

The goal is to explain your reasoning, not just recall a method name.
