Last week, the Western Bays Constructors team had their first of two Microtunnel Boring Machines (MTBM) delivered for the Bay Park Conveyance Project. These MTBM machines will tunnel underground to create a new 6’ force main which will connect the South Shore Water Reclamation Facility at Bay Park to an existing aqueduct beneath Sunrise Highway, in order to convey treated water to the existing Cedar Creek Water Pollution Control Plant’s ocean outfall pipe.

Microtunneling is a safe, effective way to install piping deep into the ground, avoiding long trenches and the need to work within roadways. To read more about these machines and learn about the project visit www.bayparkconveyance.org

Today, on the Friday before Labor Day, representatives from Governor Hochul’s office joined MTA CC Acting Chair and CEO Janno Lieber, LIRR President Phil Eng, LIRR workers, and the executive team and labor from 3rd Track Constructors (3TC) to open the new underpass at Willis Avenue.

After nearly two years of preparation, detours, construction, meticulous planning, and double track outages, the new and improved Willis Avenue is officially open to vehicular traffic. Thanks to the team’s dedication and hard work, the grade crossing elimination has enhanced safety, reduced noise and air pollution, and has minimized traffic back-ups, as vehicles no longer need to wait at crossings as trains pass.

Picone is grateful to our partners at 3TC, MTA and LIRR, and to the men and women who worked hard to build this underpass on-time and on-budget.

Congratulations to our parent company, Dragados USA, Inc., for being qualified by the PANYNJ to bid the LaGuardia AirTrain project. Dragados is the lead partner of the LGA Xpress Partners Joint Venture team, which includes OHL USA Inc., AECOM Tishman, AECOM USA Inc., ACS Infrastructure Development, Inc., and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc.

Picone will be a major participant in all phases of this project. We look forward to applying our extensive knowledge of New York’s mass transit system to assist LGA Xpress Partners with preparing a comprehensive bid.

This $2B transportation project will provide a convenient and reliable 30-minute train ride between Midtown Manhattan and the Queens airport with connections to the LIRR and New York City Subway. The bids are scheduled for submission in April 2022 with award in summer of 2022. The project is expected to be complete in late 2025.

Thank you to our 2021 interns who spent the summer learning what it takes to complete complex and innovative construction projects. They experienced and contributed to a variety of disciplines including estimating, design, procurement, and daily office & field coordination – in addition to trainings for Safety, Risk, and MWBE/SDVOB utilization.

We are proud to have offered this valuable experience to you and wish you all the best on your path to success!

Yesterday, 3rd Track Constructors (3TC) along with the LIRR and MTA C&D opened the newly built 683-spot parking garage at Westbury Station. The four-level structure is the first garage to open on the project and will support an increased ridership on the LIRR and a developing downtown in Westbury.

Thanks to the hard work of all the crews to reach this milestone. Read more about the team's accomplishments here: https://longisland.news12.com/new-parking-garage-featuring-683-spots-opens-at-westbury-lirr-station

Picone is excited to welcome our 2021 Interns! Throughout the summer they will be exposed to all aspects of heavy civil construction and engineering; seeing their knowledge transformed into tangible results.

At our welcome breakfast, the Executive Team shared Picone’s history and engaged the interns to share their thoughts and first impressions.

From the entire Picone team, we look forward to working with each of you as you start your journey in construction and engineering!

This past weekend 3rd Track Constructors, alongside MTA Construction & Development and LIRR completed the final leg of a 2-year journey to eliminate all 8 grade crossings along the LIRR Expansion Project corridor with the installation of a new concrete underpass beneath the Main Line at Willis Avenue in Mineola. Crews pushed the last U-structure into pace, weighing just over 1,156 tons, using the innovative box-jacking method. This significant milestone follows on the heels of the first bridge push for Willis Avenue beneath the Oyster Bay Branch over the weekend of June 26-27.

Over the next six weeks, crews will continue to grade and pave the roadway, install traffic signals and final finishes along the roadway, which is expected to reopen to the public in September.

This is an incredible accomplishment for Picone and our partners on the JV team at 3rd Track, and we look forward to completing the remainder of work we have in front of us.
