What is the bill?
The recently passed three new farmers bill. The bill was passed in an empty parliament in absence of opposition.

In the existing system, FARMERS OF INDIA can sell their goods at a MANDI which is controlled by APMC agricultural produce & Livestock Market Committee. With this system the farmers are ensured to get MSP Minimum support Price. This helps farmers secure a fixed value for Their crops.

In the new system, the bill allows farmers to sell their crops directly to the consumers or the private corporations. There is a huge possibility that these private corporations will exploit the farmers. Most of the farmers will not understand the terms and condition of the contracts made by the private corporations due to lack of education. This bills also released the govt of accountability of guaranteeing the farmers an MSP.

If this government was for the people, they would take the bill back if the farmers are opposing it. Punjab government was well aware when they agreed for the bill to be passed. Where are they now?

Hundreds and thousands of farmers, kids, women, elderly have marched towards Delhi to peacefully protest in opposition of the bill. And why can’t they? They have rights to peacefully protest, right against exploitation, right to constitutional remedies.

It’s high time we stand in solidarity with the farmers or India. It does not matter if you don’t come from a class of farmers. It’s imperative that you speak up because they are the hands that feed you. You are able to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner because of them. They put endless hours of work in the fields to provide the world with food. So it’s our duty to Stand with them and support as much as we can. 🙏🏽

Please spread awareness!

Light falling on the farmer who was talking to his friends in the next trolly. When you look at this photo for the first time it feels like he's sitting under the stars until you look closely and realise they are holes on the roof. ⠀

This photograph speaks of so much.It looks like the hope that the government wants to paint but has so many holes in it.
I see it a little differently. The light is hope and so is the farmer who is fighting this government.

Farmers from Punjab and Haryana have been at protesting against the farm legislations enacted by New Delhi fearing that the government will do away with minimum support prices (MSP). ... The central government has assured that the MSP system will continue several times, but farmers are demanding a written assurance. On September 27, 2020, the President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to three agriculture bills — The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020. The Bills were aimed at liberalising the farm sector, but it faced stiff opposition in parliament. The Bills have been opposed by several farmer organisations for various reasons. The chief concern seems to be the fear of losing government procurement at the Minimum Support Price. The farmers are protesting against 2 Farm Bills that the Rajya Sabha recently passed: (1) the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and (2) the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020

Someone asked - how this particular protest is different from any other protest ?

To someone observing from outside this whole protest might seem very chaotic. This is the most organised protest ever seen till now in terms of essential supplies and the sense of unity and community on the ground, these farmers are very focused and clear about what they are fighting for here. Most of them reading the latest newspaper in the morning, supporting each other in whatever way possible, and also making sure that any miscreants are identified before they do anything that might start a violent chain of events.

The government miscalculated the strength and power of the farmers. Farmers are some of the strongest people both physically and mentally. They work in their fields day and night during extreme weather conditions. Their livelihood is extremely dependent on uncertain weather conditions and many other variables, even then they have survived for centuries. Resilience is in their blood. Facing challenges is a part of their day to day life and if the central government thought they could stop them by digging few pits on the road and putting barbed wires on their way to shush them like any other voice of dissent in the last few years. Then, they were wrong.

Farmers are protesting against the new farm laws.
