In hotter months, it’s tempting to put on the AC round the clock or plant yourself facing the nearest cooler. Although keeping your body cool in scorching summers may seem like a difficult task, it turns out there are plenty of ways to beat the heat without racking up your electric bill. Here are a few tips to help you and your home remain cooler in summers without air conditioners:

Open Doors and Windows Strategically

Monitor and open up windows and doors when outdoor temperatures are cooler than indoor, it will allow the cooler air inside. During summer, temperatures may drop during the night. Allow the fresh and cooler air inside by opening the tops of windows at night.

Ice and a Fan

Put a large bowl with ice and place it at an angle in front of a fan. This simple trick creates a cool, misty breeze that feels great on hot days.

Install heat-reflecting film on windows

In the summer season installing inexpensive heat-reflecting film on windows that face the sun will keep your house cooler and reduce glare and ultraviolet rays but they will also reduce the amount of sunlight that enters through the windows.

Cook Strategically

Using your stove or oven will add unwanted heat to your kitchen. Try to limit your cooking to the early morning and plan dinners that don’t require heating up or can use a crockpot, Instant Pot, your grill, a rocket stove, or cook outside to still have delicious meals by not heating up your home.

Turn off heat-generating lights and appliances

Regular light bulbs are radiate a lot of excess heat, so switching to low or no-heat bulbs like compact fluorescent light (CFLs) or LED bulbs is a simple way to keep your house cool in the summer.

“Welcome to the joys of motherhood!”

Did you ‘just’ bring your cutest little munchkin into the world and are already being bombarded with questions and pieces of advice? Well, congratulations on becoming a mom!

Motherhood is a beautiful journey which helps you discover a different shade you never knew you had. Despite of getting a full-fledged question-answer book from numerous people around, your baby is still going to help you figure out things you literally had no idea about.

But not to worry, all moms share a similar story and so do I. Some of the “hidden secrets” my baby helped me discover are:

#1. S**t Just Got Real

‘SH*T’ is the first word which comes to our mind when something goes wrong thereby bearing a lot of importance. Ever thought something you say so often could become something you see often? Well, hey there mommy!

When I first became a mother, I actually pondered as to how such a little baby could produce such huge amount of p**p. So, to help my little one digest his food better, I took him out for walks and started feeding him less quantity at small intervals.

#2. The Cutest Alarm Clock in The World

It often happens that the things we have in abundance are the ones we take for-granted the most be it love, money, food or SLEEP! I remember when I just got married how my husband would treat me with ‘breakfast in bed Sundays’ and how I could go off to sleep anytime I wanted to without a worry. Since I hated the sound of alarms, I never kept any. But, as soon as I became a mom I could feel my sleep slipping away from my eyes and all the alarm clocks in the world incarnated as my little angel.

So, to keep up with her schedule and give rest to my eyes, I synchronized my sleeping schedule as per my baby’s. Now, we literally go to sleep together and get up together.

#3. Hide and No Seek

A calculator lags behind in counting the number of limitations that are imposed on pregnant women. I am a crazy chocolate lover but was advised not to have any when I was expecting. So, I thought to myself that I can wait and have cocoa 9 months down the line and started saving every chocolate I ever received. Now, I have a 2-year old baby and 2 bags full of chocolates both cancelling out each other.

So, whenever I get time and my little one is asleep I hide in my closet and try to stuff as many candies in my mouth as possible in one go.

#4. Your Safety is in Your Own Hands

Our babies get obsessed not just with us, but with everything about us. My little one when born had a similar obsession with my hair, which grew to such an extent that at one point she could do without me but not my hair! She would pull them and hold them while sleeping and soon there would be more hair on the floor than on my head.

So, I started tying my hair in a bun and put her favourite toys in her hands whenever she got a little fidgety, instead of my hair.

#5. That Glow Though!

“Natural beauty is the best” is what we say but fail to follow with respect to our babies. When my little one was born, I became a baby-shopaholic and would grab anything and everything that had the word ‘baby’ written on it or that would look good on my son. As a result of my increased obsession with beauty products for my baby, by the age of 2, he had double the amount of beauty products that I had by 29. However, with the changing lotions and powders every week, I could see allergies on my baby’s body.

So, I got in touch with a paediatrician and started using only those products which he recommended. Now, my little one’s product range has dropped down to two but nevertheless, my hunk looks as handsome as ever.

Ever heard of the proverb ‘too many cooks spoil the broth’? Well, they do. Everyone is going to give their expert opinion on how to raise your baby. But nobody knows your baby better than you and ultimately whatever you choose for your little one is going to be THE BEST.

“You made a tiny human, congratulations!!”
