Atlas Gear Company Manufacturer of precision gears and specialty machined components.

Northend Gear & Machine was founded in 1988 by three guys, with a lathe and an air compressor, in a small Ohio shop. Now, they've joined Vector Companies as our sibling brand.

When a job needs a gear or gearbox bigger than what fits on our floor, Northend picks it up from there. Their shop now cuts gears up to 72 inches in diameter and shafts up to 80 inches long, with full gearbox rebuild and reverse engineering work handled in-house.

A machine goes down on a Tuesday morning. Every hour after that impacts the production schedule.

Atlas Gear cuts custom replacement gears on an expedited schedule in Detroit. More than one CNC gear-cutting and grinding machine on the floor can run the job, so a breakdown order skips the queue. Every part is verified in the ISO 9001 inspection department before it ships.

When the machine goes down. We move on it fast.

First piece, in-process, final inspection: a custom gear at Atlas Gear clears all three before it ships.

This one gets checked with a caliper on the tooth face and a dial indicator for runout on the arbor. Then it's verified on a CNC gear analyzer and a CMM, with the documentation following the part at every stage.

Every custom print goes through the same three-stage process. Send yours to get a quote.

A gearbox going down costs real money for every hour the line sits idle. That's the job our expedited work is built for.

Blanking, hobbing, and inspection happen on the same floor, so a rush order doesn't sit waiting on a vendor for the next step. It moves from raw stock to a checked, finished gear or shaft without leaving the building.

Our six-week expedite cuts our standard turnaround in half, and it's the number we hold ourselves to.

That's the standard behind on-call experts.

Before a first-run part clears for production, it gets checked more than once, starting with a micrometer at the bench for the critical dimensions, then a full CMM check against the print before an engineer signs off.

A part can look right and still not fit. That's true whether it's a helical gear or a splined shaft, so every first article earns its own check.

Machined, then checked by hand and CMM, in Detroit.

The first-run part is the one that proves the design works.

OEM product development doesn't have time for a gear supplier who's figuring things out alongside you. At Atlas Gear, we get into the print early, flag anything that's going to cause trouble on the floor, and get a real part back in your hands before production starts. Not a promise. A finished part.

Everything runs through the same ISO 9001 inspection department as a full production order. Prototypes don't get a pass.

Custom-machined components slow down when blanking, finishing, and inspection are split across three different vendors.

We do all of it in Detroit, in-house. The stock gets blanked here. The teeth get hobbed here. The finishing happens here. ISO 9001 inspection takes place here before the part ships. One team, one building, zero gaps in the chain of custody.

If you have a print that needs a quote, send it over.

Straight bevel gears change the direction of rotation, and getting tooth contact right across the face is what determines whether they run well or wear out fast. It's a demanding cut with less room for error than most people expect.

We machine straight and spiral bevel gears in-house, from prototype quantities through production runs. Setup gets dialed in before the first tooth is cut, and every part goes through ISO 9001 inspection before it ships. When a customer needs a bevel gear on a short timeline, we know how to move.

Custom shafts on a tight timeline are what many shops slow you down on. The turning gets outsourced, specs go back and forth, and inspection happens somewhere you can't see.

We machine custom input and output shafts in-house in Detroit. Blank turning, spline cutting, and ISO 9001 inspection all happen under one roof. Nothing gets handed off, and nothing gets lost between steps. From first cut to final check, one team owns it.

If you have a shaft print that needs a quick quote, send it over.

Every feature on this custom helical gear matters, so every step gets checked.

After hobbing and inspection, our machinists deburr by hand. It is the oldest finishing step in the book, and also one of the most important. A clean edge affects how a part fits, how it wears, and how long it lasts in the field. From first cut to final check, this is what quality looks like when you actually care about what leaves the floor.
