Sometimes creating a convenience causes some inconvenience. With materials being delivered for and work commencing on the restrooms in Andrews Park, it has become unsafe to have the park open for recreation. For the time being, Andrews Park will be closed for construction.

Join the City of Madison this week, May 17–23, as we celebrate National Public Works Week!

In every community, Public Works can mean something a little different. In Madison, it includes everything from parks and streets to sanitation and our water, gas, and sewer utilities. We’re grateful for the dedication of these teams working above and below ground, during the day and after hours, to keep our community operating safely, efficiently, and effectively every day.

This year’s theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” recognizes the deep commitment and dedication that drive public works professionals every day. It reflects the essential role public works plays in helping communities grow, improve, and remain places where people can live with purpose and opportunity.

Some contributions, like maintaining landscape and sidewalks, are easy to see, while others, such as maintaining water, gas, and sewer systems, often happen behind the scenes. Together, these efforts, along with countless others, create the foundation of strong, thriving communities and highlight the vital connection between public service and the people it supports.

🚰 City of Madison – Level 1 Drought Response Notice 🌱

The City of Madison is currently under a Level 1 Drought Response, and we’re asking all of our water customers—residential and commercial—to help us be good stewards of our water resources.

This is not about restrictions, but about being mindful and efficient with how we use water every day. A few small changes can make a big difference for our community.

💧 Simple ways you can help:
Check for leaks inside and outside your home—and fix them promptly

Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing dishes

Only water your lawn when needed, and make sure sprinklers aren’t hitting streets, sidewalks, or your house

🌿 Outdoor Watering Guidelines:

General landscape watering is allowed between 4:00 PM and 10:00 AM daily

✅ Allowed anytime:
Watering personal food gardens

Watering new plants, seed, or turf (up to 30 days after installation)

Drip irrigation or soaker hoses

Hand watering with a hose (with automatic shutoff) or a watering can

We appreciate everyone doing their part to conserve water and protect this vital resource. Together, we can keep Madison strong and sustainable—even during dry conditions.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out to the City of Madison Public Works Department.
