Trying my hand at designing patterns. I'll let you guys in on the shenanigans soon! Also got to go to the New England Aquarium last weekend with some friends! Got seriously inspired by colorful fish. Now want to try my hand at acid dyes.

2 oz/60g of domestic alpaca from The Yarn and Fiber Company and 400 some odd yards of merino sock from Funky Monkey Sock Yarns hit the dye pot yesterday! Got all this done using one batch! Pokeberry is crazy potent. By far the best red I've gotten to date!

My roommate's mother has a boatload of pokeberry in her yard, so expect some variation coming soon! If anyone has any requests, drop 'em here!

Results from last night's dye pot: PURPLE! a proper purple! finally got the cabbage to stop doing wonky things (it's sensitive to pH balance: acid = red, alkaline = green, neutral = purple). 3 pounds of red cabbage and a pint of blueberries was successful! downside? apparently you can't really put wool top and soy silk top in the same pot without them getting friendly, and the wool fulled thanks to an unexpected spot of boiling. Can you still spin slightly fulled top? It came apart pretty easily when i pulled it back into its normal shape. I'd hate to sell this to a spinner who can't actually spin it.

Hold onto your pants, folks!

Soy silk dyed with red sandalwood! I made little tea bags and placed then strategically throughout the fiber in the jar, and didn't stir it for a month. The water was yellow but where the sandalwood touched turned a pinky peachy red. My roommate said to call it S*x on the Beach. Another friend suggested Sunstone.

Just got an ounce of baby camel into jars with beet juice! Holy Mother Nature, beet juice stains really well! Good, seeing as the baby camel is a light brown in color, not white. We'll see how this goes.
