Sometimes It’s Just This Small Thing…
Many homeowners think:
👉 “My AC must be broken.”
But in the HVAC world, one of the most common causes of poor cooling is simply:
⚠️ A dirty filter.

Your central AC system relies on proper airflow.
When the filter becomes clogged with:
• Dust
• Pet hair
• Cottonwood
• Construction debris
…it can seriously restrict airflow through the system.
That may lead to:
❌ Weak airflow
❌ Poor cooling
❌ Hot second floors
❌ Higher electricity bills
❌ AC running nonstop
In severe cases, it can even cause:
⚠️ Frozen evaporator coils

💡 One common misconception:
“Thicker filters are always better.”
Not necessarily.
Some high-MERV filters can actually reduce airflow if your HVAC system isn’t designed for them.

Saw this today while I was at my kids swim lessons. Many people don’t know this (including my own wife) but don’t put anything on top of your air conditioning unit. The warmer air that is coming off of the top of the unit is the warm air that is coming out of your house. If that warm air has a hard time coming out it’s going to make your air conditioner work harder (higher electric bill!) and could potentially cause motor and/or compressor failure. I told the kind homeowner before we left. She had no idea either! Just thought I would give helpful tip especially since we are coming up on warmer days and we need those HVAC units running well!
