Long Grain Wind is a proposed wind project bringing affordable, reliable power and long-term investment to Crittenden County, AR.

"I always say that wind farming is my best cash crop because the wind blows even during a drought."

Fourth-generation rancher Pete Ferrell added 50 wind turbines to the land his family has worked since 1888. When the rain doesn't come, the ranch suffers, and so does the income. For Ferrell, the turbines changed that, giving him a dependable source of income in the years his fields couldn't provide one.

Long Grain Wind offers Crittenden County farmers the same thing. Turbines use only a small share of the land, the rest stays in production, and the lease income is steady year to year.

At first, John Davis wasn't sold on wind. A fifth-generation Texas rancher on land his family has worked since 1902, he initially turned the company down on three different occasions. What changed his mind was the math.

Today, seven turbines on his ranch generate 35 to 40 percent of his total income. "I didn't strike oil, but I struck wind," Davis says. "We don't have the resources below, but we got resources above."

Long Grain Wind would bring that same opportunity to Crittenden County. The project is proposed on privately owned farmland, where landowners keep their land in agriculture while adding a reliable new income source alongside it.

What does Long Grain Wind mean for Crittenden County in dollars? Over $40 million to local taxing districts over the life of the project, through proposed PILOT payments.

The biggest share goes to schools. The Earle School District is projected to receive $26.6 million, and the Marion School District $7.8 million. The remaining funds can help support critical county services, including road improvements, public safety, and other essential services that community members rely on every day.

Long before turbines are installed, careful planning and research help determine whether a location is a good fit for a wind project.

Developers spend years studying wind patterns through on-site measurements and long-term weather data to better understand site conditions and determine the best locations for turbine placement.

This process helps ensure the project is thoughtfully designed to make the most of the area’s wind resources and provide reliable power over time.
