When the team at Renegade Research reached out to us to collaborate on sample analysis, we didn't hesitate. In under 24 hours we had a plan in motion, kits shipped their way, and vendors prepped. The Renegade team worked just as quickly to make it happen.

Patient-led science means we all understand what's at stake with our work and why time matters. Millions of people are losing days to their symptoms. We are working rapidly to understand the biology of complex chronic conditions in an effort to find treatments that could help.

ChronicleBio is generating multi-omic data on samples collected during Renegade Research's Innovation Inn. It was a multi-day event where ME/CFS patient-researchers deliberately tracked their own post-exertional malaise (PEM) to help characterize what happens in the body before, during, and after.

Across the event, the team collected 482 plasma, serum, and whole blood samples at multiple timepoints, alongside HRV, lactate, heart rate, blood pressure, and symptom data. We supplied collection kits for every timepoint, and our analyses will complement everything else being measured.

We're proud to be one of several partners contributing to this work, alongside Amatica Health, Alden Scientific, Arden Bio, Infinity Bio, CDI Labs, Theriome, ImYoo, and an MIT team from Mikki Tal's MAESTRO project demoing nailfold capillaroscopy, WAVi EEG, and Right Eye tracking.

Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms participants in our research studies report.

The answer as to why could lie in metabolomics.

Inside every cell, a chain of chemical steps called the citric acid cycle acts like a tiny engine that burns fuel to make the energy your body spends every second.

The small molecules flowing through these steps are metabolites.

When this engine runs low or gets stuck, cells make less energy, and that can show up as tiredness, post-exertional crashes, brain fog, and inflammation. Measuring hundreds of metabolites at once lets us see how well that engine is running.

Complex chronic conditions vary from person-to-person, so we measure 2000+ metabolites across hundreds of people to find patterns.

The research reports we return to our study participants show them where they land in the context of this group. This kind of analysis allows our scientists to better understand what could be driving symptoms like fatigue and one day lead to therapies that could help.

Ever wonder what actually happens to your sample after it’s collected for the Chronicle Biobank?

Most study participants never hear what researchers found or they have to wait years for a publication. We invite you into the scientific process while it’s unfolding. So while all of our participants will receive a research report once analysis on their sample is complete, we wanted to start by sharing how we get to that point.

Currently, we have about 3500 vials of blood in our biobank. When you contribute your sample, it will join the others at our lab for processing. Once your health records are synced in Chronicle Connect and lifestyle surveys are complete, multiomic analysis can begin.

Research reports are then generated and appear in your account. You’ll see what omics assays our team ran and where you fall in the findings alongside the cohort.

Your tests haven’t fully explained your condition, but you know something is happening in your biology.

We believe you.

Mobile sample collection is our next chapter in expanding access to research on our mission to find effective treatments for complex chronic conditions. Every participant who contributes a sample and shares their data will receive individual research reports back.

We’re a team of researchers who have seen the impacts of poorly understood conditions like POTS, ME/CFS and Long COVID. Many of us experience these illnesses ourselves or love someone who does. Our goal is a future where therapies are matched to the individual based on their biology rather than relying on trial and error. The data you share can help our scientists uncover the biological mechanisms driving these diseases, identify patient subgroups, and understand why some treatments help certain people, but not others.

The first collection is free for the initial cohort of 250 participants. We know any information to help understand your body can be useful when you’re navigating a chronic illness. That’s why we won’t wait until we’re ready to publish to share it with you.

As the research expands, so will what you receive. AI is only as strong as the dataset on which it is trained. Bringing together hundreds, and eventually thousands of patients helps ours grow.

The sickest patients are often the ones left out of research.

For people living with ME/CFS, Long COVID, POTS, and related conditions, a single lab visit can cost days of recovery if they can make it there at all. Research that requires showing up in person has inadvertently excluded the people who need answers most.

At ChronicleBio, we've been thinking about this since day one. Expanding access to research is vital to its success and those it serves.

In our first year, we reached patients in Texas, Utah, Arizona, and India through our clinic partnerships and the Chronicle I Study. The overwhelming response has proven patients want to be part of the solution. They just have to have a way into the equation.

For the last year, participants have been joining our mission through our clinic partners in Texas, Utah, Arizona, and India as part of the Chronicle I Study, providing our team a first look at the underlying biology of complex chronic conditions.

Early findings are giving us insights into how the body's immune system works in these conditions. These are initial signals, and there's a lot more to map, but they show us where to look and what's worth investigating further.

Findings like these are the starting point for understanding what's happening biologically and, eventually, how to target it. Our goal is to find better treatments that improve outcomes.

Biology gives us information, but patient experience tells the story.

We are as sad as we are determined by ChronicleBio Co-Founder Fidji Simo's announcement that she is stepping away from her full-time role at OpenAI due to Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).

For millions of people around the world their illness is invisible, but the impacts are profound. Complex chronic conditions change careers, relationships, routines, and futures in ways the world rarely sees.

We see the strength of people who suffer from these diseases every day through their participation in research all while managing life-altering symptoms. Like so many patients, even while her own condition deteriorated, Fidji found a way to contribute to the solution. She helped launch our company in 2025 with the goal of accelerating the development of treatments.

We share this reminder below for Fidji and all who have had to choose between their health and anything else they love:

Dr. Mumm has spent his career in immuno-oncology helping precision medicine transform cancer care. For him, it wasn't just about discovering new therapies, but understanding that what looked like one disease was actually many. With the right biomarker, the right patient, and the right therapy, outcomes changed.

Now he's bringing that same thinking to complex chronic conditions.

“The system has effectively given up on millions of patients because their syndromes have long been thought to be too complex to take on, but we know they are actually tractable molecular problems we can solve with the right therapeutic targets. That gap between what's possible and what has been done is what motivates me," Mumm said.

Mumm is a three-decade immunology innovator who has founded multiple companies and authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications. He brings transformational drug-development expertise to Chronicle.

“This team treats every patient sample as a falsifiable hypothesis rather than a data point,” Mumm said. “That intellectual honesty is rare, and it’s the only mindset that actually moves potential treatments for chronic disease forward.”

That conviction is what brought him to ChronicleBio as Chief Scientific Officer. For the patients who have spent years searching for answers, his message is clear: Your disease is not unsolvable. It just hasn't been solved yet.

For the first time, members of the ChronicleBio science team came together in person as we prepare to open our lab and headquarters. What started as a mission shared across screens, states, and lived experiences is becoming something very real.
