A wintery scene as a GreenMark Solar project near Scandia completes construction. All of the power generated is consumed within the local area, eliminating the need for need transmission lines. It generates enough electricity to power 500 homes, around the clock. This 20 acre solar garden's subscribers include a local university, a Fortune 100 company's headquarter facilities, and a large city.

Our first community solar gardens are reaching commercial operation! This Carver County installation provides solar subscriptions to a large local university, a Fortune 50 Company, and a Twin Cities municipality. We are excited to bring these gardens from an idea to fruition.

St. Paul officials have negotiated an agreement with GreenMark Solar to power a fourth of St. Paul’s municipal buildings with electricity derived from community solar gardens.

The photovoltaic capacity in Minnesota increased 61 percent per year from 2010 to 2013, states Star Power: The Growing Role of Solar Energy in Minnesota. By merely seeing that figure sustained at 43 percent annually between 2013 and 2030, Minnesota could achieve the 10 percent level.

Minnesota is already well on track to meet a solar power goal established by the legislature last year, according to a new report.

The report says the U.S. "has the potential to produce more than 100 times as much electricity from solar PV and concentrating solar power (CSP) installations as the nation consumes each year." It adds that every single state could generate more solar electricity than its residents currently consume.

Minnesota could source up to 40% of its power from wind and solar sources without causing reliability issues, according to a new report from the state's Department of Commerce.

The report, conducted with MISO, has good news for other midwestern states as well.
