That's a wrap on the 2021 Race Up Rock Creek!

WINNER?! Fish Tag No. 149.230-21, or "Troy Boy", won the Race this year after traveling 58.5 miles to spawn just upstream of the Little Hogback! Troy Boy, a female hyprid westslope-rainbow trout weighed1.69 lbs at the time of tagging and was 16.85 inches in length.

Stay tuned as we share more of the tracking findings from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks biologists and University of Montana W.A. Franke College of Forestry and Conservation, University of Montana graduate student Troy Smith who championed the effort to track these fish during their spawning period and throughout the entire summer!!

Wanda and big 'ol Zeke are cuttbows, or rainbow - cutthroat hybrids. Unlike many of the rainbows that are staying in the mainstem to spawn, they both swam up this pictured tributary to Rock Creek. Does anyone know which stream this is???

Mrs. Jolliff's Outdoor Literacy Class at the Boulder Jr High is sponsoring "Oogie", a male rainbow trout weighing 1.3-lbs and over 15-inches in length. Meet Race contestant "Concho":
A 20-inch male rainbow x cutthroat trout hybrid
Weighed in a 2.5lbs when tagged by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks at the mouth of Rock Creek this spring.

Concho initially swam up the Clark Fork River, before turning around to head up Rock Creek- likely in preparation to make a spawning run.
