As a lot of you know, we are avid cat rescuers. Some of our followers have been asking for more stories, here’s one of my favorites….
This is “Cowboy”
This poor guy was constantly getting kicked out of the neighbor’s garages, sprayed with garden hoses, and attacked by dogs… all because he was hungry, or needed a place to keep warm.
One day we noticed him peeking around the corner of the house (watching us) and eventually we were able to get closer without him running away.
After a week or so we were able to live trap him and took him to the vet to be neutered, vaccinated, and thoroughly checked out. He had a lot of old scars on his head, nose, and ears – evidence of a hard life in the neighborhood.
Fast forward 2 years….
Nicknamed “The Sheriff” because he actually breaks up fights between the other cats by physically getting between them. He watches over the other cats in the fenced yard from his perch that I made from recycled pallets and an old bird feeder post, ready to intervene if he needs to.
Turns out this tough guy is a softie too. Every night when he hears me get into bed, he runs into the room, jumps up and sits at the foot of the bed, patiently waiting for me to give him permission to come sit on my chest. I rub his neck and tell him how good of a boy he is, he looks at me like he actually understands, and after a few minutes, he puts his head down and falls asleep.
That's when I realize how lucky I am....
