❄️ Severe Winter Weather Prep – Heating Tips for Raleigh, NC ❄️
With winter weather expected this weekend, a little preparation can help keep your home warm and prevent unnecessary service calls.
What you can do before the storm:
🔋 Replace thermostat batteries if they’re more than a year old.
🌡️ Test your heat now — turn it on and make sure it’s running properly before temperatures drop.
🔌 Know where your HVAC breaker is so you can quickly check it after a power outage.
🚪 Close unused rooms & seal drafts to help your system keep up more easily.
🧊 Set your thermostat to a steady temperature — avoiding big setbacks helps during extreme cold.
After a power outage, before booking a service call:
🔁 Check your breaker panel and reset the HVAC breaker (off, then back on).
🌡️ Confirm the thermostat is set to Heat and above room temperature.
⏱️ Allow a few minutes for the system to restart — many units have a built-in delay.
Important safety reminders:
🚫 Never use your oven, stovetop, grill, or outdoor heaters to heat your home.
🚫 Do not run generators indoors or in garages.
⚠️ If you smell gas, leave the home immediately and contact your gas provider.
