Forged up a nice candle holder at a fellow blacksmith’s forge along side a couple of Brother’s of the Blacksmith’s Of Arkansas group. Sarah Hanna was happy and now wants a 2nd one to complete the set. I hope you are all having a productive and safe weekend! It was great fellowship and forging with you Robert Meuser and David Rodriguez.

Got a new upgrade in the shop this week, an induction forge! My first project was something that has been on my mind for quite some time… an alligator/dragon toe carabiner.
The first attempt broke on me after trying to get just one more 1/4 twist in it so it became a pendant with a distressed finish. This was my first time working with brass but I think it turned out good. The induction forge will be seeing much use as it heats the steel in a matter of seconds with no clean up, no machine warm up time, and no fumes. I hope you all are having a good weekend!

Finished these custom spoons up for a customer last night. (These are the last two of 4) He’s a coin collector and wanted custom spoons made for his sisters with their name engraved and wanted to be able to attach a penny with their birth year on it.
This is what I came up with… 2 1/2” diameter 14 gauge copper scoop section with leather texturing on the inside and planished finish on the outside/back, custom chiseling with hammered finish center section on the handle, coin inset with cleaned and polished pennies preserved and encapsulated in epoxy, finishing it all off with the decorative leaf forming a loop to hang them from. These were a bit tedious, but cool to contribute to such a special gift between siblings and what will hopefully be treasured for a long time.

I had an interesting commission for a turkey brand that a customer wanted for marking downed birds on his shotgun strap. He wanted it fairly small and be able to clip it to his turkey vest. I forged it from one solid piece of 3/8” round steel to make it as clean as possible with zero welds. The spring portion was made from a 3/32” hitch pin. This was my first project incorporating a spring clip, but it turned out great and the customer loved it! I will drop a video in the comments of the spring in action.

1905 Blacksmith Post Vice Restoration!

My bench vice had been giving me trouble for a while so I picked up this old post vice from a local welder. It was in definite need of some work so I straightened the leg and handle, wire wheeled all of the parts, heated and coated in boiled linseed oil, made some wedges for the mounting shackle (they were missing), cleaned out the 120 year old grease that was coming out in black chunks, re-greased, and finally forged a new spring out of a car leaf spring. I love restoring these old blacksmith tools and seeing new life come back in to them.

I had a commission from a coin collector for a custom scoop/spoon that would hold a 2025 penny for a Christmas gift. It was a pleasure dealing with Dan throughout the design process and the recipient was very pleased with the outcome. I love being able to utilize creativity and have freedom to design things for people, it is very fulfilling.
Thank you for the support from all of you and I hope you had a Merry Christmas!
