Today's Fun Fact: The Washington Monument has a noticeable difference in color for upper 2/3 of the structure. Funding for the construction of the monument fizzled out before the Civil War broke out, which put building on hold for 20 years. Once it was decided by Congress to fund the finishing of construction in 1876, the quarry where they harvested the original marble used to begin building was no longer available. So they found a new quarry to supply the rest of the marble to finish the project, however, there is a noticeable difference in color of the stone, which can still be seen to this day.

It's time for another :

Today's Tip: If you got your new deck built and are ready to stain it, it's important to make sure the wood is dry enough to accept the stain. After making sure the surface is clean, here's how to test the dryness level:

Try the bead test. Drip some water on the surface of the wood. If the water beads up, the wood still needs to dry a bit more. You can also take a nail and gently press it into the surface--if water seeps out around the nail head, the wood is not dry enough... and make sure to give yourself a few good dry days to apply the stain and let it dry without rain.

It's !

Today's Tip: Lots of people are taking on their own DIY projects. If you're building a deck and have to dig piers for footings, make sure you dig to a depth of 42 inches below grade. Not only is it the building code, but it's important to get the piers below the frost line to avoid the frozen ground heaving the piers up. And the piers now must be 12 inches in diameter.
