Before anything else, there’s the pilot hole.

The pilot hole sets the path for the HDD installation. During this process, a smaller diameter pipe is drilled from one side of the crossing to the other. From there, more passes are run to enlarge the hole to the adequate product pipe size.

HDD projects require analysis of geological conditions to ensure proper safety and efficiency. But what happens when there are two crossings to consider?

A midstream operator had 2,796 feet of pipe to be installed in an urban area. The project involved two HDD crossings, one under the Brazos River and the other under Interstate 10.

The project presented two primary challenges.

1. The Brazos River required precise ex*****on and monitoring due to its layers of sand and gravel that could impact operations.

2. Completing both a major river crossing and a large interstate crossing consecutively required meticulous planning to minimize potential delays.

MAXX HDD successfully completed both crossings with a DD-440 rig, streamlining operations and staying on schedule.
