Before an HDD project starts, the site’s geological conditions must be considered. This helps ensure safety and efficiency. But what happens when multiple conditions must be considered?

A midstream operator had 2,796 feet of pipe to be installed in an urban area. The project involved two HDD crossings, one under the Brazos River and the other under Interstate 10. This layout presented two primary challenges.

1. Crossing the Brazos River required precise ex*****on and monitoring because its layers of sand and gravel could affect operations.
2. Crossing a major river and a large interstate simultaneously required meticulous planning to minimize potential delays.

With a powerful DD-440 rig, MAXX HDD successfully completed both crossings, streamlining operations and staying on schedule.

The role is a full-time, on-site role based in Navasota, TX, responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for horizontal directional drilling and related trenchless construction projects.

What You’ll Learn & Do:
• Estimate HDD projects from start to finish
• Perform detailed quantity and material takeoffs
• Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications
• Review project scopes and identify potential risks and challenges
• Assist with developing project bids and proposals
• Research materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractor costs
• Work with HDD superintendents, project managers, and executive leadership
• Help develop production rates and project schedules
• Learn HDD means & methods, tooling, equipment, and construction techniques
• Track bid opportunities and assist with maintaining estimating databases
• Support the team in preparing competitive and accurate proposals

What We’re Looking For:
• Construction, engineering, estimating, or related experience is a plus — but not required
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to read and understand drawings and plans — or willingness to learn
• Comfortable working with numbers, spreadsheets, and computer software
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Self-motivated with a willingness to learn
• Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment
• HDD experience is a plus, but we’re willing to train the right person
