Clean Water for the Navajo Nation Right here in the USA, thousands of Navajo people struggle every day to access safe drinking water. Partnering with Water is Life, we can make a difference

Did you know that here in the United States of America, thousands of people struggle every day with their access to safe drinking water? In the Navajo Nation, nearly 100,000 Native Americans live without running water. And, in recent months, dilapidated gold mines are jeopardizing the clean water supply that does exist. The students of DePaul University (Chicago, IL) have partnered with Water is L

ife to create sustainable change and improvements to the Navajo Nation's water dilemma. Over the next 6 weeks, our goal is to raise $20,000 to implement The SunSpring - a solar & wind powered water treatment system that can produce 5,000 gallons of clean water per day. The Sunspring's ability to provide clean drinking water without a power source makes it an affordable and sustainable option for mitigating the Navajo Nation's water crisis. Water is Life has successfully implemented clean water projects around the world; their focus has been in African countries such as in Haiti and Kenya. But now it is time to address the water problems here in the United States. Water is Life will play a key role in implementing and maintaining the SunSpring. The story of Permaculutre is having international success. This is what we are doing in the Navajo Nation!

“The wind and the water eroded all the fine earth that should serve as a sponge for the rainwater,” says Mueller. “We started to manipulate the situation so these places retain the rainwater falling on them. Then you start to build structures like swales, which fill with rainwater and slowly filter into the earth.”

Tamera’s ecology experts transformed an area at risk of desertification – and say they can do the same anywhere in the world

Kevin Sofen has been working to provide access to fresh drinking water and local food production for members of the Navajo Nation since 2015. What started as an assignment for a class project has now morphed into one of his deepest passions.

Depaul Students see the impact on the Reservation!
Last year, Depaul students raised over $12,000 to go towards various water projects. Due to our efforts, 4 acres of land were transformed into Permaculture food forests! We are now hungry for more! It is now our goal to convert 25 acres of desert land into lush food forest on the Reservation! Please visit our funding page to continue the amazing work http://www.depaulnavah2o.myevent.com/3/donate.htm

Depaul Students see the impact on the Reservation. Over the last few months, students raised over $12,000 to go towards various water projects. Even after the project is completed, we are now committed to raise an additional $12,000 to implement 20 more Permaculture food farms! Hello!
Thank you all for the continued support. After our first round of efforts, together we raised over $12,000 to support clean water efforts in the Navajo Nation. Also see the attached letter that we received from an anonymous person! This is an amazing gesture that motivates us to do something amazing.

Over the next few weeks we will keep you informed as to how these projects are developing.

At the current moment we are taking two approaches. 1) Working directly with the Navajo Nation government to provide water treatment and water storage options on the reservation. 2) Working with the Permaculture Provision Project to bring sustainable farming to new land on the Reservation.

Thank you all for the support. We will continue to work diligently to bring clean water solutions to the Navajo Nation. Please reach out if you have further comments or questions.

“It’s a third world country in the middle of the wealthiest country in the world.”-Halter

This article that dates back to December of 2013 shows how little has been done thus far to fix the water crisis in the Navajo Nation. Please donate to help us make a difference in the effort to provide the Navajo Nation with clean, safe water.
