I'd you have an off grid solar system and are concious of high wattage loads draining your batteries an evaporative (swamp) cooling system will only draw about 5 amps @ low speed. This is a great alternative to central or window unit air conditioning which might draw between 10 & 20 amps a.c. You will need to hook up a small water line to the unit. This unit is rated for cooling up to 1100 SQ. Ft.

Here is an off grid solution for a small cabin that needs power for lights, fan , small refrigerator and an aerating pump for a large pond. The system consists of four 250W solar panels, inverter/charger with auomatic generator input, charge controller and breaker panel and 4 twelve volt deep cycle batteries in parallel. This system will automatically cycle generator to keep the batteries charged when there are a series of cloudy days.
