Recently here in New Haven, we had some new apartments open up. Most people seemed to notice that they weren't affordable for most people. The same situation keeps coming up with the new housing divisions. We could build and sell 2 or 3 bed / 1 bath houses for $2-300,000 Great affordable starter homes.
If you wonder why we don't have these...a big part is local governments. Whether someone lives in the house or not, property taxes still get paid. The higher the "value" of the house, the higher the tax. So, the housing nobody can afford keeps getting approved.

For each 12" dryer vent stack out of the roof, we had to cut through multiple layers of roof, and line each one with 1/2" fiber cement board. There are 13 dryer vents stacks.
