The Dixie Construction family lost a true force this past Sunday, our beloved Dad, George Vulevich, Jr.
He was a father to 6 and devoted husband of 53 years, an adored son and brother, a musician, an entertainer, a larger than life personality who was loved by so many. In fact, he’s the reason for our name Dixie Construction. Over 70 years ago, George Sr. opened Dixieland Auto Sales on Canal Street. When he passed, our dad George Jr. took over. He ran Dixieland for over 40 years and became known to many as the “Governor” of Canal Street. Then came George III - he didn’t have the drive for the auto business, but instead loved construction. So when George III started his own business, to honor the family tradition, he named it Dixie Construction.
Today all 6 of his kids did the Annual NOAC Turkey Day race. A race he did for so many years that we joined him in countless times, becoming a Thanksgiving tradition.
We’re so thankful today and always, for all the good times, the laughter, the songs, the love and most of all the memories. We love you Dad. Cheers to the Governor🥃

“See us first!”

Dixie Construction, LLC is owned and operated by George Vulevich. George grew up in Metairie, Louisiana and graduated from Brother Martin before going to LSU to study Agriculture Business. One hot afternoon in Baton Rouge, George was installing a ceiling fan in friend's tract house and realized most of the houses in the neighborhood probably needed ceiling fans as well. George had always been a handy guy and decided then to capitalize on his skills and start a service hanging televisions and ceiling fans around Baton Rouge. The business quickly grew and so did the scope of the projects, ultimately leading George to become a fully licensed and insured contractor. Dixie Construction, LLC was eventually created after moving back home to New Orleans with his wife, Liz. The name Dixie Construction, LLC is a nod to his father’s auto dealership, Dixieland Automotive, whose sign can still be seen on Canal Street in Mid City to this day.
