"AI Unleashed: Sparking Innovation and Curiosity in Young Minds"
The world is changing faster than most of us could have imagined, and much of that change is driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI). As an AI Robotics Strategist and a Visionary Author, and someone who cares about the future of technology and its users, I have had a ringside seat on the potential of AI to transform and infuse many domains, improve the lives of many globally, and help face some of the big macro challenges of the near future. But with potential comes responsibility: a commitment to ensure that the next generation hears the same clarion call to prepare for, and harness the potentials of, work and life in an AI world.
It is in this spirit, then, that I am pleased to present this book, which brings together 21 thought-provoking articles about the crucially important role of AI as an educational resource for learners of all ages and, especially, for youngsters who will be the leaders of the fourth industrial revolution. Moreover, the articles spell out how it is possible to bring these learners along, to engage and equip the young, to inspire and educate the 1.8 billion boys and girls who today are under the age of 15. If you are a parent, a teacher, a mentor or anyone else concerned with the future, with the way ahead, with what young people will need to engender and build this future through effective collaboration together with their peers, these articles will speak directly to you and provide pathways of transition and strategy, visions and artifacts, stories and case studies, and, above all, a real sense of how we can motivate kids to learn AI.
It’s hard to overstate the need for AI literacy: as we roll further into the 21st century, AI will be at the heart of almost every sector of the economy – from healthcare and finance to entertainment and education. The jobs of the near future will depend on skills that don’t yet exist. It will depend on workers with the ability to not only use but to shape AI. But technical skills alone will be insufficient. We also need to foster creativity, ethical consciousness and a passion for lifelong learning – qualities that will help young people not only adapt to change, but also to shape it.
Here, we’ve collected some of our best stories addressing a wide range of topics, such as how to make AI learning fun and engaging, how to remove obstacles and make AI available to everyone, and how to foster the talents of young innovators. In these articles you’ll generally find a good overview of the opportunities and difficulties of AI education, and sensible advice to anyone interested in supporting the next generation.
Because that is the spirit in which I, a career explorer of the frontiers of AI and robotics, approach my research. I’m empowered by my imagination, my curiosity, to put one foot in front of another – and that power is what robots need if they ever become truly autonomous, truly creative. It’s that same drive that has carried humans to dominate our planet and connect a world with billions of interesting brains. That’s why I am so very keen for all young people to get their hands on AI. Experiencing the inside of a robot is not just learning about technology. It’s learning to imagine, to create, to lead.
With this book, we call upon every young person to believe in herself or himself as a creator, an innovator and a leader in the age of AI; and for all of us to take a stand to invest in generations to come.
I invite you to take this journey with an open mind, and a determination to make a difference, and help to build a world in which technology augments, rather than replaces, humanity.
Thank you for extending your undertaking. Let us inspire and help those who will be the future torchbearers for innovation.
