One of the highlights at the ISO/TC 211 plenary meetings is "Standards in Action". This is a day of presentations that in some way touch on standards and standardization. Standards in action is free and everyone can participate, digitally or onsite, which this year is Gothenburg in Sweden.

This year's presentations will address, among other things, how standards can be used in digital twins and in the transport sector, BIM-GIS initiatives, how young people can be attracted to working with geodata and standardization, and national geospatial strategic plans from India and Sweden.

Please see required registration information in the news item at:

NationalSTEMday is a good a reason as any to ramp up ASPRS NAR a bit.

On this , we’re proud to share a reflection from our Chief Engineer, Gerard Dalziel: How EWB-USA is engineering hope amid global uncertainty.

As he prepares to retire at year’s end, Gerard reflects on the lessons of community-led engineering—and the optimism he carries for the future we’re building together.

Join SCGIS and register for their NASA webinar tomorrow to learn more about advanced remote sensing technology as it applies to conservation. See their invite below.

"Hi SCGIS community,

This is just a reminder to register for our free SCGIS webinar tomorrow, Wednesday Nov 5 focused on conservation applications of thermal infrared and hyperspectral remote sensing!

Tomorrow’s webinar will be Part 1 of a two-part series in collaboration with NASA focused on this topic. We will be announcing Part 2 tomorrow, scheduled for early December.

To view tomorrow’s list of presenters, presentation descriptions and to register, please visit our Webinars page on the SCGIS website: https://www.scgis.org/webinars

We have a full agenda, so will start promptly at 1pm Pacific/4pm Eastern.

Please share with your networks and encourage your colleagues to attend. We look forward to seeing you there!"

Advances in thermal infrared radiometry and hyperspectral imaging are revolutionizing how we observe and understand Earth’s environmental systems. These technologies provide detailed data on land surface temperatures, vegetation health, plant functional traits and phenology, water quality, and oth...

The ASPRS Standards Committee and ASPRS Lidar Division of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing are proposing ASPRS Guidelines for Quantifying Horizontal Sampling Density of Aerial Lidar Point Cloud Data. Pursuant to the policy for adoption of ASPRS Standards, we are seeking public opinion on the proposed document, which can be read in its entirety here:
https://publicdocuments.asprs.org/LidarDensity-Ed1-V1-draft

The proposed guidelines include the following major sections:
· Introduction and Scope
· Terms and Definitions
· What is Point Density?
· Requirements for Lidar Point Density Measurement and Reporting
· Methods for Measure Density
· Methodology Comparison
· Existing and Common Density Use Cases
· Recommendations

“How do they keep from crashing into each other?” A fair question that any youngster might ask as they watch the ships of all types traverse the harbor in Sydney, Australia. Who do we have to thank for the technological marvel of computerized movement with such reliability? While there are many players in the field, one major contributor that spans government, academic, not-for-profit and industry efforts is ISO’s Technical Committee 211 (TC 211), who is currently celebrating their 30th anniversary.

Perhaps you want to engage with a single snapshot in time as the geospatial industry progresses. Stop the Presses! … and set aside 13 November 2024 to attend the Standards in Action seminar, that is free and open to everyone who registers, by visiting https://iso.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwqfuGtrT8qHtUxK3VkhZrB67dKOssTRV_p #/registration .

The seminar is part of the TC 211 plenary week where standards developers are meeting to create the future world of innovation. If you are in the industry, or want to be, please engage with your national body to find a way to participate.
