At Tuesday's signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between U.S. energy investor, HYDRO-LINK and the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to build a 720 mile long (1,150-kilometer), $1.5 billion electricity transmission line between Angola and the DRC.

This project will deliver much needed reliable and affordable electricity to the provinces of Angola and the DRC, and will support the mining sectors, local industries and the population in areas along the line route.

On October 14th, HYDRO-LINK and the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build a 720 mile long (1,150-kilometer), $1.5 billion electricity transmission line between Angola and the DRC.

Earlier this year HYDRO-LINK signed related agreements for the project with the Government of Angola, as well as an investment agreement with Swiss-based Mitrelli Group, which has joined as a major investor and partner, bringing decades of experience in Angola to the management team and to the project, and an agreement with Sargent & Lundy, a Chicago based global leader in engineering and design for the power industry, who will provide Owners Engineer and Independent Engineering services to HYDRO-LINK.

On October 14, HYDRO-LINK and the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo signed an agreement to develop a 720-mile (1,150 km), US $1.5 billion electricity transmission line linking Angola’s hydropower surplus to the DRC’s mining and industrial corridors. The agreement, formalized at the USA–DRC Economic and Investments Forum in Washington, D.C., marks a milestone in regional energy integration and U.S.–Africa investment partnership.

Earlier this year, HYDRO-LINK signed similar agreements with the Government of Angola, and an investment agreement with Swiss-based Mitrelli Group, which has joined as a major investor and partner, bringing decades of experience in Angola to the management team and to the project. Additionally, an agreement has also been signed with Sargent & Lundy, a Chicago based global leader in engineering and design for the power industry who will provide Owners Engineer and Independent Engineering services to HYDRO-LINK.

CNBC Africa spoke with Paul Hinks, Chairman and CEO of Hydro-Link, about a landmark $1.5 billion investment by Hydro-Link to build a cross-border electricity transmission line connecting Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

HYDRO-LINK Chairman and CEO Paul Hinks participated in the "Country Spotlight: Resources, Security and the U.S. Role in the Democratic Republic of Congo" during this week's US-Africa Energy Forum hosted by Energy Capital & Power in Houston to discuss energy and infrastructure investments in the DRC where we are developing a 1,150-kilometer (720 miles), $1.5 billion electricity transmission line that will bring surplus hydropower from Angola to the DRC.

Mr. Hinks said, "this cross-border transmission line will strengthen the DRC’s energy infrastructure, making it more reliable and will drive regional power integration, unlocking opportunities for industrial growth, especially in local manufacturing and mineral beneficiation. It is expected to generate thousands of jobs during construction and will serve large-scale mining sites, as well as deliver essential electricity to population centers in both Angola and the DRC.”

Read more about how HYDRO-LINK's $1.5 billion, 720 mile long electricity transmission line between Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) will provide reliable, accessible hydropower to the critical mineral mines in Southeastern DRC’s energy-hungry Copperbelt region, while also connecting load centers in both Angola and the DRC supplying much-needed electricity for public use - and how projects like this support both the strategic interests of the US and Africa.

Whether he knows it or not, President Trump's African energy strategy is an indispensable part of his “America First” geopolitical plan.

Big news from the U.S.-Africa Business Summit in Luanda.

Today US power investor, HYDRO-LINK signed a milestone MoU with Swiss based Mitrelli Group — to launch a U.S.-led $1.5 billion clean energy project that will deliver hydropower from Angola to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

This 1,150-kilometer transmission line will power mining operations, fuel local industry, and support underserved communities across the region.

Stabilizing power supply for critical mineral mining in the region, HYDRO-LINK supports U.S. national security and manufacturing policy, as well as the development priorities of the region. Stronger energy means stronger supply chains that are vital to the US economy and the rest of the world.

HYDRO-LINK is proud to lead this transformational investment in partnership with Mitrelli as well as with Sargent & Lundy, a global leader in engineering and design for the power industry.
