What if Mars was only 30 days away? 🚀 Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom has unveiled a working laboratory prototype of a plasma electric rocket engine that could cut the journey to Mars from nine months down to just one or two months. Unlike conventional chemical rockets that rely on fuel combustion and reach particle speeds of only 4.5 km per second, this magnetic plasma accelerator uses electromagnetic fields to push hydrogen ions to a staggering 100 km per second.
Scientists at the Troitsk Institute are currently testing the engine inside a 14-meter-long vacuum chamber that replicates the conditions of deep space. 🌌 The engine operates at 300 kilowatts in pulse-periodic mode and has already demonstrated a lifespan of over 2,400 hours. A house was printed in just 14 days. 🏗️ Japanese construction-tech startup Kizuki has unveiled "Stealth House," the country's first government-approved two-story home built entirely through 3D printing. Located in Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture, the 50-square-meter structure stands 7 meters tall and was created using a giant COBOD gantry-style printer operated by just four people. The entire process, from feeding design data directly into the printer to finishing works, was completed on-site without interruption. It was then sold at an undisclosed price, proving real market demand already exists.
What makes this truly remarkable is that Japan experiences over 500,000 earthquakes every year. 🌍 Kizuki engineered Stealth House with a hybrid system of 3D-printed concrete walls and a reinforced concrete frame anchored by deep ground-improvement piles. It fully passed Japan's strict New Anti-Seismic Structure Standard. Experts say this technology can combine up to seven traditional construction trades into one streamlined process, potentially freeing trillions of yen in productivity. A Nobel Prize-winning physicist says shortcuts through the universe may actually be real. 🌌 Kip Thorne, theoretical physicist at Caltech and 2017 Nobel laureate, has argued that wormholes could exist as tunnels in the fabric of spacetime. His landmark 1988 research, published in Physical Review Letters with Morris and Yurtsever, showed that traversable wormholes are theoretically possible if threaded with exotic matter carrying negative energy. This finding turned science fiction into a serious physics conversation almost overnight.
What makes this even more mind-bending is Thorne's claim that a wormhole stabilized with exotic matter could also function as a time machine. 🕳️ He proposed that one end of a wormhole could be accelerated to near light speed, creating a time difference between both ends that would allow travel into the past or future. ⏳ Most of us have imagined jumping into a portal and arriving somewhere else entirely and Thorne says the laws of physics may not actually forbid it. Scientists just replaced plastic with bamboo and the results are extraordinary. 🌿 Researchers at Northeast Forestry University and Shenyang University of Chemical Technology in China have engineered a fully biodegradable plastic made entirely from bamboo cellulose. Unlike old bamboo composites that still relied on petroleum-based resins, this new material is built from bamboo at the molecular level. It achieves a tensile strength of 110 megapascals, roughly double that of conventional bioplastics like polylactic acid, making it strong enough for use in cars, appliances, and infrastructure.
What makes this truly game-changing is what happens at the end of its life. The material fully biodegrades in soil within 50 days and retains 90 percent of its original strength even after recycling, supporting a true closed-loop economy. 🌍 The study was published in Nature Communications in October 2025. Plastic has polluted our planet for generations and this single plant may finally help us undo that damage. The future of materials might just be growing in a forest.

A rock just sold for 5.3 million dollars. But this is no ordinary rock. 🪨 It traveled 140 million miles through space to reach us. NWA 16788 is the largest known piece of Mars ever found on Earth. Weighing 24.67 kg, it is 70 percent larger than any other Martian rock ever recovered. It was discovered in November 2023 by a meteorite hunter in the remote Agadez region of Niger's Sahara Desert. Scientists confirmed it was blasted off the Martian surface by a massive asteroid impact so powerful that it turned parts of the rock into glass. On July 16, 2025, it sold at Sotheby's New York to an anonymous bidder for a record 5.3 million dollars.
Think about that for a moment. 🔴 There are only around 400 confirmed Martian meteorites on Earth. NWA 16788 alone represents 6.5 percent of all Martian material humanity has ever collected. It is classified as a shergottite meteorite originating from Mars's volcanic regions. The rock contains large magnesium-rich crystals and a glassy fusion crust formed during its violent entry through Earth's atmosphere. 🌍 This single specimen could tell us more about Mars's geology and ancient climate than decades of robotic missions. Scientists say studying it may unlock clues about whether Mars once supported life.
