Always wear your PPE, but don't confuse that with zero bodily damage. PPE hazard ratings do not guarantee zero bodily damage, they assume there will be some burns 2nd degree burns, though you should survive. Better yet, stay well out of the way when the electrician opens and closes there equipment.

An Arc Flash is an electrical explosion resulting from a low impedance connection to ground or another voltage phase in an electrical system.

Wayne Swirnow, President of Infrared Imaging Services LLC has achieved “Master Thermographer” level from the Infraspection institute.

The Master Thermographer™ program is a completely new approach to establishing thermographer qualifications. Unlike certifications that rely solely upon the completion of formal training classes, this program is based upon thermographer training, experience, and professional references.

As a technical presenter at the IRINFO and United Infrared thermal imaging conferences, and as an infrared certification instructor for the Infraspection Institute, I am proud to receive the elite designation of Master Thermographer.

This week we attended the United Infrared Thermal Imaging Conference in San Diego, CA where I presented two papers on Thermography titled "Demystifying Emissivity" and "Radiant Floor Heat Study.

Greg Stockton, Peter Hopkins and the staff at UI conducted a great conference and it was nice to see all my infrared associates again.

Its been a while since I've posted a good image, So to start out the new year here is a thermogram of a PV solar panel with single a bad cell. Photo Voltaic cells in a panel are usually wired in a series string. When one cell in a string goes bad it can block all the power from the good cells. If there is sufficient current and voltage from the good cells, it can cause the bad cell to reverse bias, the power from the good cells gets dissipated as heat in the bad cell .This heat is visible with the Infrared imager and shows up as a "hot spot" on the panel.

This dynamic image taken by Wayne Swirnow, President of Infrared Imaging Services LLC (www.infraredimagingservices.com) during a thermal study of a Datacenter shows the uneven cooling of the racks caused by air distribution system. The lower right areas of the rack (in blue) are over cooled and the upper left rack areas are hot and undercooled. The strong diagonal line between blue (cool) and red (hot) is caused by the angle of the louvers in the ceiling mounted cooling air supply vent.

Here are a few great Infrared images from a recent Infrared Imaging Services LLC job showing radiant heating coils under a concrete slab in a large garage. The system was just turned on so the warmer areas represent the beginning of each loop when the incoming water is hot. As the water in the coil gives up its heat to the cold concrete the coils get cooler at the end of each run. Multiple loops are visible in this image.
