While firefighters battle the in , PG&E crews are working to help protect critical electric infrastructure that supports our local customers and hometowns. By applying fire retardant to poles and other equipment, and clearing vegetation around critical assets, our Safety & Infrastructure Protection Team (SIPT) is taking proactive steps to help reduce damage and support a faster recovery once the fire is contained.

Since 2019, PG&E's SIPT program has saved customers more than $170M.

We're grateful to our crews and all first responders working around the clock to keep our hometowns safe.

Before GPS. Before smartphones. Before real-time alerts.

Victor was already out there helping find and fix problems on the grid.

Over the past 30 years, he's watched the tools change from paper maps and pagers to advanced technology that helps crews pinpoint issues within seconds.

But the reason he comes to work remains the same: helping customers.

Every day, Victor works behind the scenes to find problems before they become bigger issues, supporting wildfire safety, improving reliability, and helping keep communities safe.

Power outages are frustrating. We understand that.

That's why a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is never a decision made lightly.

When wildfire conditions become severe, we closely monitor factors such as wind, humidity and dry vegetation, while using advanced weather forecasting tools to better understand risk. These insights help inform decisions designed to reduce the potential for catastrophic wildfires.

A PSPS is a last resort, used only when conditions indicate a heightened risk to public safety. The goal is simple: help protect communities, first responders and critical infrastructure when wildfire danger is at its highest.

Preparation can make a difference. Make sure your contact information is up to date so you can receive notifications if a PSPS may impact your area.

🚁 Every minute counts when a wildfire starts.

That’s why PG&E partners with Marin County Fire Department, Merced County Fire Department and Butte County Fire to provide dedicated Black Hawk helicopters from peak wildfire season: May through November.

Since 2023, these helicopters have:

💧 Dropped 2M+ gallons of water
⏱ Logged nearly 450 flight hours
🔥 Supported 64 initial attacks

Working together helps firefighters respond quickly and protect communities across Northern and Central California.

It's summer. It's California. Wildfire season is here, and Northern California needs to be ready for it.

PG&E Chief Meteorologist Scott Strenfel says the region is facing an above-normal risk of significant fires this year.

Step inside the Meteorology Analytics Center, where Scott and his team turn 1,600+ weather stations and 650+ AI-enabled wildfire cameras into minute-by-minute Public Safety Power Shutoff decisions.

Scott also notes that while a potential strong El Niño could increase the chances of above-normal precipitation later this year, it's not a guarantee of a wetter season — and it's just one of many factors our meteorologists are watching.
