On the evening of May 4, The Academy of Seminole (TAOS) took a direct hit by a tornado, causing significant damage to our beloved school. We are asking for help in getting the school opened in time by August. There are 300 kids that are counting on us! Fortunately, our insurance will assist with temporary leases for space. However, there are some costs that will not be covered by our insurance.
The two places we are planning to lease need a little tender loving care. We need to bring in playground equipment, paint, fix HVAC, replace teacher material, and replace things that students had in class (backpacks, school supplies). We also have to bring in and set up a modular building that will contain even classroom spaces.
Playground equipment - $15,000
Painting and other minor upgrades- $20,000
Labor of local workers- $10,000
Delivery of modular buildings, set up and level- $50,000
Ramps and other outside work for modular buildings- $10,000
Teacher bought material replacement -$15,000
Student items (uniforms, backpacks, ect) - $10,000
TAOS is a public charter school located in Seminole, Oklahoma. We began with just thirty ninth and tenth graders in August of 2018. In one year, we grew into a vibrant school community with over three hundred students, ranging from Pre-K to twelfth grade.
TAOS uniquely houses all grades on the same campus; this creates a real sense of community for students, parents, and staff. When asked, most of our students would describe their school as a family–a safe, caring space for all who call it home.
Together, we can ensure that our most urgent needs are met so that our students may continue to learn in an environment where they feel safe and secure.
Thank you,
Wren Hawthorne
