Tip Tuesday - BEWARE!!!!!
AI is powerful — but it’s also making it easier for dishonest contractors to fake their portfolios.
I'm starting to see contractors post AI-generated project photos of jobs they’ve never actually completed. I've seen contractors on these pages show before, during, and after pictures that are completely AI generated! It's small details that give it away to me: a third axel on a wheel loader in the background, a piece of trim extending slightly past a wall in the background, etc. These images can look incredibly realistic, but they don’t represent real work, and it's extremely deceiving to the average customer.
Before hiring anyone, protect yourself:
• Ask for project addresses (and verify them)
• Check reviews across multiple platforms
• Ask for references you can actually call
• Make sure they have insurance and, if their trade requires it, that they are licensed
•Don't pay unnecessary deposits. Special order materials, sure, but no reputable contractor is going to require a whopping 50% deposit just to get on their schedule
Simply looking at before and after images is no longer enough to judge a contractor’s work.
AI is a tool. Integrity still matters, and unfortunately, many contractors lack it!!
