Graphene — The Material That’s Redefining Solar Power

Graphene is not just another innovation — it’s a revolution in material science.
One atom thick, stronger than steel, lighter than aluminum, and more conductive than copper, graphene represents a new frontier in renewable energy.

When integrated into solar modules, graphene dramatically enhances electrical conductivity, thermal stability, and light absorption efficiency, allowing panels to capture and convert more energy — even in low-light or high-temperature conditions.

Did You know that our new PVGRAF 435 Wp solar modules is much smaller than first generation. What does it mean...??? Silicon used to produce them is much higher quality and more efficient. # # Big Doesn't Mean Safe: Risks of Lowest-Cost Projects

In the tech industry, particularly in the solar energy sector, it is a common belief that larger companies are more stable and secure. However, the latest financial reports from several key players indicate that even the biggest companies are not immune to rapid market changes. For investors and customers, this serves as a significant warning that projects executed at the lowest costs can carry serious risks, including the potential lack of warranty revalidation.

# # # The Long Shadow of Price Drops: The Case of Longi

Longi, a giant in the photovoltaic industry, announced a projected net loss for shareholders ranging from CNY 4.8 billion ($660.2 million) to CNY 5.5 billion. This represents a massive decline compared to a net profit of CNY 9.178 billion in the same period in 2023. The company attributed the expected losses to significant price declines across the industry supply chain, resulting in inventory writedowns of CNY 4.5 billion to CNY 4.8 billion.

# # # Tongwei: Sales Success, Profit Failure

Tongwei is also facing severe financial issues. The company expects a net loss of approximately CNY 3 billion to CNY 3.3 billion for the first half of the year, compared to a net profit of CNY 13.27 billion in the first half of 2023. Despite substantial growth in polysilicon material sales, Tongwei's profitability declined sharply due to falling prices.

# # # TCL Zhonghuan: Price Drops and Growing Losses

TCL Zhonghuan, a wafer manufacturer, has forecasted a net loss of about CNY 2.9 billion to 3.2 billion for the first half of 2024. This is a drastic fall compared to a net profit of CNY 4.54 billion in the same period last year. The company cited rapid price declines across the polysilicon material, wafers, and cell segments, pushing sales prices below cost levels by the second quarter, resulting in widespread losses.

# # # Aiko Solar: Production and Marketing Costs

Aiko Solar, a specialist in back contact technology, expects a net loss of CNY 1.4 billion to 2 billion for the first half of 2024. Higher manufacturing costs and increased marketing expenses have dragged down profitability, compounded by significant provisions for inventory writedowns.

# # # Market and Investor Implications

These examples show that even Tier 1 companies are not immune to rapid and severe market changes. Investors and customers must be aware that projects executed at the lowest costs may be more susceptible to insolvency risks and the lack of warranty revalidation. Choosing business partners should be based not only on price but also on financial stability and the ability to weather difficult market conditions.

# # # Future of the Industry

The situation in the solar energy sector may stabilize, but the current financial losses of major players are a serious warning sign. Investments in renewable technologies must be made with long-term financial stability in mind, rather than short-term cost savings.
