Our PTR-MS mobile lab recently visited our Presque Isle and Hochberg Lab locations, giving RJ Lee Group employees an up-close look at continuous air monitoring in action. From live demonstrations to interactive tours, the experience highlighted how advanced technology is bringing faster, more precise insights directly to the field.

It’s all part of our commitment to delivering innovative solutions wherever they’re needed.

AISTech 2026 is the steel industry’s largest annual conference and exposition and provides an opportunity to see the latest equipment and technologies for steelmaking. One of the emerging concerns is the flood of data organizations face, especially when trying to find root causes of quality issues or failures. RJ Lee Group’s AKM-SEAMS® is helping to turn fragmented data into actionable insights.

Discover how AKM-SEAMS™ transforms fragmented data in steel failure analysis into unified insights, enhancing decision-making and process optimization.

One more from our AISTech week.

Mike Potter, one of our senior materials scientists, has been invited to sit on the Kent D. Peaslee Memorial Panel, alongside researchers from U.S. Steel, Colorado School of Mines, Carnegie Mellon, and Missouri University of Science & Technology.

Getting tapped to share a stage with that group is a real recognition of the expertise our team brings to the steel industry.

We're proud of Mike and proud of the kind of work that earns an invitation like this.

Big day for one of our scientists next week. 🔬

On Wednesday, our own Allison Alex Durkee will be presenting at the World of Coal Ash conference in Lexington, co-presenting with colleagues from a partner firm on a really practical problem in the coal ash world.

Here's the short version: federal rules now require utilities to identify and clean up legacy coal ash sites. But sometimes coal ash looks an awful lot like ordinary soil, and you can't always tell them apart by eye. Allison and her co-presenters are showing how a specialized microscopy technique can settle the question — which matters a lot when you're deciding what needs to be cleaned up and what doesn't.

The kind of careful, technical work that has real environmental consequences. Proud of you, Allison! 🎉

Another piece of work our team has their fingerprints on at AISTech today. 🔬

Four of our materials scientists co-authored a paper with U.S. Steel researchers asking a pretty important question: is the way the industry has been measuring steel cleanliness for the last 80 years still the right way to measure it — especially for the high-strength steels now used in modern vehicles?

That kind of collaboration — our experts working alongside one of the biggest names in American steelmaking — is the everyday reality of the work our team undertakes every day.

The "RJ" in RJ Lee Group isn't just a name on the sign out front.

Today at AISTech, Dr. Richard Lee is presenting new research at AISTech — right here in Pittsburgh — on rethinking how the steel industry measures cleanliness. He's leading the work alongside several of our materials scientists and a colleague from U.S. Steel.

The current standard for rating inclusions in steel dates back to 1942. Dr. Lee and the team are proposing something better — combining modeling, automated SEM imaging, and AI to actually predict how inclusions affect steel performance in the real world.

Eighty years of standard practice, and our hometown team is helping write what comes next. A pretty special place to work. 🏙️

Cleveland tomorrow!

Our team is making the trip out to Ceramics Expo to spend two days talking shop with the people developing the next generation of high-performance ceramic materials.

It's always a good week when our scientists get to be in a room with people who are just as nerdy about microstructures as they are. 🔬

Safe travels, team!

Tomorrow is the big day. 🏙️

AISTech kicks off in Pittsburgh, and Tuesday is shaping up to be a full day for our team — three different sessions, all focused on the science of clean steel.

☑️ Late morning: Dr. Richard Lee presenting new research on the future of inclusion assessment

☑️ Mid-afternoon: a paper our scientists co-authored with U.S. Steel on automotive sheet grades

☑️ Late afternoon: Mike Potter sitting on the Kent D. Peaslee Memorial Panel alongside researchers from some of the country's top engineering schools

Three sessions in one day is a lot. We're lucky to have a team deep enough and respected enough to be in all of them.

Good luck tomorrow, team! 🔬
