A maiden voyage photo from the Harrison family collection showing passengers walking on Sun Deck.

Note the "catwalks" used by crew members to launch the lifeboats. These catwalks lined both sides of Sun Deck. They were removed in Long Beach primarily to insert the large staircases used as entrances to the two large shopping centers that soon failed that they placed on Sun Deck. They also took out the original square windows for much larger ones, although many have been painted over for many years from the inside.

The catwalks actually provided relief from the scorching sun on the deck and probably would have been useful in California. These changes are just some of those done, perhaps with the best intentions, that turned out to be costly and counterproductive.

I can’t believe I have to take time out of my very very busy day to create this rather useless welcome post to entertain you the unwashed masses but here I am. My name is Caledon Nathan Hockley and I am the heir to the biggest steel company in the world Hockley Steel. Hockley Steel is located in Pittsburg PA. I am at the top of first class high society currently living in Philadelphia PA. I was apart of history and on the maiden voyage of the world’s most luxurious ocean liner and greatest ship in all history RMS TITANIC unfortunately along with my ungrateful and unappreciative ex fiancée Rose. I think she may have died in the sinking but I am not to certain. She should have gotten into the boat the many times I tried to get her in but she went to a useless third class gutter rat instead. Although I may have lost The Heart Of The Ocean Necklace one postive came that night and I am finally rid of that dead weight in what was soon to be my future mother in law. Anyway onto much more greener pastures and brighter light on the horizon. I am one of the most wealthiest men on the planet and there are many other beautiful women out there and I can have any one of them. Who wouldn’t want me?
