Regulatory isn't something you figure out at the end.

The pathway can influence development strategy, evidence requirements, timelines, funding needs and decisions made much earlier than many founders expect.

That's why regulatory strategy is part of BioBuild.

Founders will learn from experienced experts and begin thinking about regulatory as part of the business strategy, not simply another box to check.

Applications are open.

Looking back on a great week in Bend at the 2026 Bend Venture Conference (BVC)!

The OBI team arrived in Bend ahead of BVC and enjoyed a team visit to the High Desert Museum before the conference activities began. Heather Ellis also attended a private dinner hosted by Cliff DeGroot and Caitlin Vargas, with support from Cara Turano and Ben Parish.

From hosting our Accelerate Biotech Networking Lunch to cheering on Oregon companies on the BVC stage, we enjoyed connecting with founders, investors, and industry partners from across the state.

We’re especially proud to see OBI client companies represented at the conference, including Ebb Health as an Early Stage finalist and Caravel Bio receiving a $150,000 investment from the Intrepid Oregon Fund.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to connect with us in Bend, and to Tonkon Torp LLP for supporting our networking lunch.

We’re grateful to be part of a community that shows up for its founders, celebrates progress, and works together to move Oregon bioscience forward.

We're one week away!

How do you build a company culture that grows with your team?

Join us next Tuesday, October 27, for our Virtual Lunch & Learn with Terry Smith as he explores how intentional company culture shapes the way teams work, grow, and succeed.

Terry will share practical approaches to building a strong foundation for your culture, preparing for future hiring, and avoiding the challenges that can come when culture develops without intention.

Where you want to go matters.

So does understanding what has to happen between here and there.

BioBuild founders will examine their development path and the scientific, technical and commercial milestones that move an innovation closer to market.

Because "finish the science and commercialize it" is technically a plan.

It's just not a particularly useful one.

Applications are open for the inaugural BioBuild cohort.

Congratulations to Caravel Bio on being awarded $150,000 from Intrepid Oregon Fund at the 2026 Bend Venture Conference (BVC)!

Based in Portland, Caravel Bio was selected as a Growth Tech Stage finalist for its protein engineering platform.

It’s exciting to see Oregon bioscience companies recognized for their work, and we’re proud to be part of a community that supports founders, celebrates milestones, and helps strengthen Oregon’s bioscience ecosystem.

Congratulations to Trevor and the Caravel Bio team, and to all the finalists who received awards at this year’s conference!

We’re in Bend for the 2026 Bend Venture Conference (BVC), cheering on Hewa Artin, MD, MBA and Josh Parks as they represent their company, Ebb Health, Inc.!

Based in Portland, Ebb Health is developing a platform for durable relief of neuropathic pain and was selected as an Early Stage finalist at this year’s conference. We’re proud to support their work and see Oregon bioscience companies sharing their innovations with investors and the broader startup community.

Also, a special shoutout to Yalda Moshiri for serving as a moderator at this year’s conference. You did amazing!

A fascinating technology isn't automatically a business opportunity.

One of the first questions BioBuild founders will tackle is deceptively simple:

What problem are you solving, and is it important enough for someone to act?

Before regulatory strategy, fundraising or investor decks comes clarity about the opportunity itself.

That's where we start.

Applications for BioBuild are now open: https://zurl.co/gerNj

Founders are expected to know a lot.
Science. Markets. Funding. Regulatory. IP. Reimbursement. Hiring. Strategy.

That's a pretty unreasonable number of hats for one head.

That's why mentorship is built into BioBuild.

Each participating company will be paired with a dedicated BioMentor who can provide an experienced outside perspective throughout the 8-week cohort.

Not another lecture just someone in your corner.

BioBuild wasn't designed around generic startup advice.

Bioscience companies face different questions.

Long development timelines. Regulatory pathways. Intellectual property. Reimbursement. Clinical evidence. Capital requirements.

That's why BioBuild sessions are led by people with experience in the bioscience industry and the specific challenges founders will encounter along the way.

Eight weeks. Practical questions. Experienced perspectives.
