Latest 3DGS Postshot capture from the game “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” brought into UE 5.5.4 with some “friends.”

If you have followed some of my post, I have been using Otis_INF Photo Tools to create camera tracks and then record them in realtime using NVIDIA vidcap tool*. From there I edit then import it into Jawset Postshot. Praise to Jawset for constantly updating their Splat tool AND including an Adobe Premiere/After Effect plugin and an Unreal plugin for UE 5.4 and UE 5.5. Sadly, until last week, the UE plugin did not render properly in camera or via the video output tools (legacy or the new ) Happy to say this is now fixed, but still some quirks with its positioning in the level (its origin does not correspond with origin you created the Postshot editor at 0/0/0 in the level editor). Another issue, is in how the Postshot captures volumetric fog, which is used a lot in these games (notorious in the Silent Hill 2 Remake) and more importantly in how it effects occlusion in the UE engine. Which is seen in dips in brightness and abrupt shifts in focus. With a little more cleanup of the splat, this would have helped but still for quick test and render it was pretty much WYSIWYG.

Notable in this video is the use of animated characters made available by EPIC from their defunct RPG “Paragon” and a Meta Human using their offset capture process to look like my wife (I have been working on an AI Therapist, which is modeled after her — a psychotherapist of over 35 years). Lighting included a SkyLight and Directional light to match the lighting (for the most part) in the 3DGS and a Reflection sphere, but chose to use Lumen GL and Reflections from the scene itself which now seems to capture the 3DGS.

Alternate title “Every Expedition Needs a Therapist”

PS I do have several “Real World” captures I have done that I will be sharing soon, along with my workflow using an iPhone 16 Pro and the Black Magic Camera App.

The Last of Us 2: Remastered “Happy Birthday Kiddo” Gaussian Splat

In the game from Naughty Dog, LLC “The Last of Us 2: Remastered” there is flashback to a scene that continues to show the relationship between Joel and Ellie, and the love a father would have for his daughter be it biological, step or in this case — adopted. It, in my opinion is the reason “The Last of Us” series is so engaging, if not touching. It appears that in tonight’s episode on HBO/Max this scene is recreated, so it will be cool to compare the game versus the live action version.

Technical Notes:
If you have created a Guassian Splat ( ), you know that you need a series of images that overlap to create a point cloud that becomes the basis for the radiant rays rendered to represent what the eye would see from that vantage point. With that in mind, I wanted to see if I could capture video of a camera on a programmed track inside a very tight space inside the video game using photo tools, NVIDIA Video Capture (at game resolution @ 120fps/120bps) as a .MP4, then into for training, editing, .ply export and video. The video was brought into Black Magic where I edited and added audio from the game as well as adding a camera ‘shake’ effect during the launch. The .ply file was brought into , that similar camera track was added and exported as HTML folder which can be viewed here -

Ashley Johnson Cover of “Take Me On” Gaussian Splatted from TLOU2-Remastered

“The Last of US Part 2: Remastered” looks gorgeous with its update to Unreal Engine 5, but more importantly the talent of those who created these cutscenes and the use of modern motion and facial capture that breathes life and emotion into these characters, that in my opinions is as good or even better than the live action HBO series since there is a level of agency not found in passively watching a movie or TV series. Still it is fun to watch the similarities if not a shot by shot comparison between the game and the TV series. A good case is in the sneak peak of the upcoming episode 4 (as of 4/30/25), that showed a similar, if not exact shot by shot scene of Ellie playing the guitar for Dina. In the game, Ashley Johnson is not only motion captured playing the guitar, but also sings the part as well from my understanding as Ellie, and not in her normal singing voice. Not sure Bella Ramsey will be singing or will it be Ashley Johnson in another guest appearance in season 2.

Now the technical side:

As mentioned in the title this is actually a video captured from the camera at 12 fps with Ashley Johnson cover of A-ha “Take on Me” . The process included capturing a video of a camera path created in the app Otis_Inf’s Camera Tools & NVIDIA ‘s video capture app. The resulting video is imported into and then exported a file to import into SuperSplat where this video was rendered and as exported as a web file you can view here: https://owlcreek.tech/3dgs/TLOU_EllieGuitar/ which allows you to move the camera yourself to see detail that was not shot in the orginal cutscene.

Want to vent some of your agression towards Elon Musk? More importantly, LEGALLY and SAFELY?

Introducing the available as a or file.

USDZ can be opened up in Apple’s (in ‘Files’. Sadly audio has stoppped functioning in newer versions of QuickView). GLB for Microsoft Windows or in a Google Android app. Also, the latest version now has side mirrors.

Love to see your video clip, just add it in the comments.

NOTE: I do not condone REAL violence, vandalism or arson as a means of protest. Be safe AND just showing up in protest is half the battle in your disagreement with the policies and “retributions” being made against the US American people.

As someone who spent 50+ years immersed in technology and another 30+ years in design, development & managment of it. I have seen how tech writing went from those who “walked the walk” to just “talking the talk” from “tech journalist” who somehow think interviewing or talking to someone at cocktail party is the same thing as understanding the processes involved in design. It could be there own egos, need to rise above their peers, or just feeling important due to the feedback they get from the company and/or readers that encourage them to think they have the answers.

Why am thinking about this? Mainly because of those who have covered Elon musk like Kara Swisher, who has risen to fame due to the interviews she has had with Elon that are more like a sycophant support, instead of real interviews (that I know she is capable of, eg Mark Zuckerberg). It harkens back to those who covered Steve Jobs in positive light even though he would park in handicap parking spots and denied paternity support for his daughter, or more recently, Elizibeth Holmes & Theranos and Rony Abovitz & Magic Leap and their claims on how their “bold new technology” would change the world; which turned out after billions invested; were just scams with products that could do none (or barely any) of the things claimed.

Returning back to Elon Musk. It is only now we are starting to see the cracks in his companies’ products. Tesla Industries is under legal scrutiny for deaths related to its self-driving technology and investigation for astronauts returning in one of SpaceX capsules requiring hospitalization. Along with several legal entanglements for Twitter aka ‘X’ and DOGE Coin Crypto. Finally Musk’s direct envolvement with Donald J. Trump and his shady if not illegal $1M daily raffle.

There is irony that same people who raised to fame on his coattails in tech journalism, may find themselves targets of the same man they praised for years.
