🌱 PLANT POWER MESSAGE OF THE SEASON 🌱

☆ Stinging Nettle or Urtica dioica ☆

Nettle is rich in iron & minerals that nourish the blood, strengthen the body, and ease seasonal allergies. Indigenous communities & African-American folk healers have prepared it in soups, teas, and spring tonics to restore energy after winter. As the weather warms, nettle supports circulation, hydration, and renewal while the body adjusts to longer days and rising heat.

Every season, will be bringing you Messages - bits of information and knowledge on the magic of plants and things found in the natural 🌎.

Hey Kijani Fam!

We are calling on the Portland Black Community to tap in with us at The Kijani Collective PDX by taking some time to complete a quick, but important survey intended to help center OUR voices and needs when it comes to climate justice.

The 2026 Black Student Success Summit was a success!

The Kijani Collective was on hand to provide opportunities and information to our young people, and talk with them about their take on our current environment. We've got lots of work to do but we're so glad that there are many amazing young people to do the work alongside us. Congratulations BEAM VILLAGE on a successful summit. It is an honor to have you as a partner.

👑Fannie Lou Hamer, The Great, who coined the term
"I'm tired of being sick and tired" was a leader, organizer, singer and farmer during the Civil Rights Movement.🌹

Mrs. Hamer was an organizer for Mississippi's Freedom Summer and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) that mobilized youth throughout the country to come to the south to register Black people to vote and break Jim Crow Laws utilizing non violent tactics.

🚜Fannie Lou Hamer also founded the Freedom Farm Cooperative which sought to uplift Black People by providing food, education & housing. Mrs. Hamer was also co-founder of the National Women's Political Caucus.

Although Ms. Hamer was not an Oregon native,
her efforts influenced many and put a National
spotlight on the horrendous violence that
Black people endured trying to exercise their rights.

We remember and honor Mrs. Hamer for her
courage to inspire us to stand up for our rights!

It's time to protect PCEF. Funds that Portland citizens voted to allocate to combat the effects of climate change and increase climate justice are being eyed by wealthy special interest groups to be used to increase policing. This is insane.

Show up tomorrow (and bring friends) to say NO!
We need all of us to fill the courtroom.

Day: Friday, February 13th,
Time: 1pm
Multnomah County Courthouse
1200 SW 1st Ave Portland, OR

Thank You to Coalition of Communities of Color for rallying and leading this effort!

🌿MARSHMALLOW ROOT - PLANT POWER MESSAGE OF THE SEASON

With so much going on, lets continue to remember to draw upon the strength and protection from Great Mother Earth. In every season, even in winter, she is here for us and holds us (literally). This winter we share the message of Marshmallow Root, a powerful root of protection that cools the throat and organs in times of inflammation.

Native to North Africa and used in Egyptian remedies, marshmallow root also reminds us of our rich heritage... of a heritage and culture we can tap into and call upon, always.

Stay uplifted family!
