‘Twas the night after Christmas, when all through Suzhou
Not a creature was stirring, not even a buffalo,
The passports and visas were applied for with care,
In hopes that Team Buff would be allowed in there;
The robot parts were nestled all snug in their cases,
While visions of vex awards danc’d in their cortexes,
And Alex in LAX, and I in Seatac,
Had just loaded our plates for a large winter’s snack
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
When, what to my wondering eyes should I see,
But a miniature drive base, and eight 393s,
Plugged into little motor drivers, wires arranged like spaghetti,
I knew in a moment it must be Copioli.
And powered by turbos his drivebase came,
And he opened RobotC and called their variable names:
“motor[Dasher]=127; motor[Dancer]=127; Prancer]=127; motor[Vixen]=127;
“motor[Comet]=127; motor[Cupid]=127; motor[Donner]=127; motor[Blitzen]=127;
So up to the 20 point zone drivebase flew,
With the mobile goal stacked with cones- and a scissor lift too:
And then in a twinkling, I heard it come near,
The whirring and grinding of each tiny gear
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney Copioli came with a bound:
He was dress’d in a vex shirt, and khakis so creased,
And his clothes were all tarnish’d with white lithium grease.
A bundle of V5 motors was flung on his back,
And he look’d like a peddler just opening his pack:
His eyes - how they twinkled! his dimples how merry,
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry;
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the stubble of his chin was as white as the snow;
The handle of an allen key he held tight in his hand,
The cortex he was attaching was official Vex brand.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
Delayed V5 another year; then turn’d with a jerk,
He sprung to his drivebase, and prodded his joystick
And away he drove, with motors so quick
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight-
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
