🚩The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from 4 p.m. Saturday, August 22 through 11 a.m. Sunday, August 23. On Saturday and Sunday, a strong cold front will move
through the region, bringing a risk for thunderstorms and strong west to southwest winds. This will lead to critical fire weather conditions across the region.

As part of Kootenai Electric Cooperative’s (KEC) Wildfire Mitigation Plan, we have adjusted our system settings to disable automatic power restoration when a fault occurs during elevated fire risk conditions. While this may result in more frequent or longer outages, it helps reduce the risk of electrical equipment sparking a wildfire.

If an outage occurs, crews must first patrol and inspect the affected power lines to ensure they are safe before power can be restored. To support a rapid response, KEC crews will be strategically staged throughout our service territory for the duration of the Red Flag Warning.

Please note that restoration efforts may be delayed during Red Flag Warnings or other hazardous conditions. Once conditions improve and it is safe to do so, crews will make necessary repairs, inspect the line, and restore service. Because safety assessments and line patrols must occur before restoration can begin, estimated restoration times may not always be available.

KEC cannot guarantee uninterrupted electric service, especially during fire season. If you rely on electricity for medical equipment, livestock or a well, or have other critical power needs, please secure backup power options such as generators, battery systems, or solar and review safety tips for medical equipment that depends on electricity.

📱Keep your contact information current in your online KEC account so we can reach you with important notifications. For more information on how to do that, visit: www.kec.com/account-services/manage-your-online-account/
📍Bookmark our outage center page at www.kec.com/outages-safety/outage-center/ so you can quickly check the status of an outage. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to protect our members, employees, and communities during periods of heightened wildfire risk.
