🏗️ ABC Reports: Gauging Construction's Pulse for 2024

Backlog Indicator Nov 2023: The industry is bustling but gearing down. Currently, at an 8.5-month backlog—below the 10-month benchmark that signals a thriving market. It's the shortest since 2018, reflecting fewer new projects ahead.
Confidence Index Nov 2023: Contractors forecast positive growth in sales, profits, and staffing over the next 6 months, with all indices above 50. Yet, with a project intake slowdown and persistent labor challenges, what does the future hold?
I’m observing that we are at a crossroads with high interest rates and a 50% drop in request for proposals (RFPs).
To my construction folks, how crucial are the coming months?

"I predict office construction will not only return to pre-pandemic levels, but surpass it!" Kevin Cheng

What do you think? Let me know in the comments.

Changing Landscape: This article states that office construction may not revert to pre-pandemic levels. I believe in the opposite of that and I’m suggesting a paradigm shift in the industry that will actually fuel a new surge in office construction.

A Case in Point: JE Dunn recently began work on a significant office tower in Omaha, highlighting ongoing developments despite broader trends.

Rise of Alterations: In addition, we will see a shift in more renovation/alteration projects (as opposed to new office buildings). In the next 5 years, expect more projects that modify existing buildings to meet code and for improved usability, such as renovations or structural rearrangements.

Adapting Infrastructure: The next 5-10 years will likely focus on repurposing current buildings to align with evolving work and life environments.

Stay updated on these transformative trends in office construction.

"I reached out to see if they would entertain working with remote construction project managers for their off-site grant project" Kevin Cheng

Revolutionizing Construction in Appalachia: Focusing on Off-Site Workforce and Housing 🏠

Innovative Approach: A dedicated team is pioneering offsite construction in Appalachia, aiming to rejuvenate both affordable housing and the local workforce.

Parallel with Project Management: This initiative aligns with ideas of transforming project management to mirror pre-fab or modular construction methods.

Remote Possibilities: While not explicitly stated, integrating remote project management could be a key strategy for this team, and I'm exploring a potential collaboration with them.

Engaging for Progress: I'll be reaching out to discuss innovative workforce solutions and will share updates in an upcoming newsletter.

Stay tuned for more on this exciting venture into modern construction methods.
