One of the large, local Brunswick county companies told them their compressor had failed. After diagnosing it was just a failed cap and compressor overheated and in internal overload.

Cooled it off with the water hose, replaced cap, fired up. Perfect amp draw and pressures spot on.

Every HVAC system has a primary and secondary drain line. These are in use anytime your AC is set to cool. A component in your air handler sweats/condensates and that water has to go somewhere so it is plumbed via a drain line that runs outside your home.

From time to time these lines clog with gunk/dust/hard water. When that happens either one of two things will happen, you will develop a water leak OR if your unit is equipped with a auxiliary/safety float switch is should shut your unit off to prevent further condensation.

So if you notice water in a random spot on a ceiling not below a bathroom or if your unit randomly stops cooling, it could something as simple as a clogged drain line.

That’s what I had this morning and after cleaning drain line with commercial cleaner and vacuuming out entire line the unit was back up and running!

Another company told the homeowner they needed a new system- (their contactor was just shorted).

Replaced the contactor and they’re back up and cooling.
