How to install a GFCI plug!🔌🔌💥💥A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet is a safety device designed to protect people from electrical shock by quickly shutting off power when it detects an imbalance between the hot and neutral wires—something that can happen if electricity is flowing through water or a person. These outlets are commonly required in areas where moisture is present, like bathrooms, kitchens, garages, and outdoor spaces. To install one, you first turn off power at the breaker and confirm it’s off with a tester, then remove the old outlet and identify the line (incoming power) and load (downstream) wires. Connect the hot (usually black) and neutral (white) wires to the correctly labeled “LINE” terminals on the GFCI, and attach the ground wire (bare or green) to the green screw. If you want to protect additional outlets downstream, you can also connect those wires to the “LOAD” terminals. After securing the outlet in the box and attaching the cover plate, restore power and press the “TEST” and “RESET” buttons to make sure it’s working properly.
