Part 2 of our Split AC series — what’s happening inside your home. 🏠❄️

Last week we broke down the outdoor unit. This week it’s the indoor components, the ones doing the work you actually feel.

🧠 Evaporator Coil
This is where cooling actually happens. Warm air from your home passes over the cold coil, heat gets pulled out, and cooled air is pushed back into your rooms. If it gets dirty, it freezes up, and your AC stops cooling entirely.

💨 Blower Fan & Motor
Moves air across the evaporator coil and through your ductwork to every room. Doesn’t matter how well everything else works, if this stops, no air moves. Period.

🔧 Air Filter
The one thing every homeowner can maintain themselves, and the most neglected. It captures dust, pollen, and debris before it gets into the system. A clogged filter restricts airflow, strains the system, and is one of the top causes of frozen coils. Change it every 1–3 months.

💧 Condensate Drain & Pan
As your AC cools the air, it pulls moisture out of it. That moisture collects in the pan and drains out through the condensate line. When that line clogs, and it does, water backs up into your home and your system shuts down. We clear and treat this on every tune-up.

Do you know what's inside your outdoor AC unit? 🤔

Here's a quick breakdown of the 5 main components that keep your system running, and what happens when they don't.

🔧 Compressor
The heart of the whole system. It pressurizes the refrigerant and keeps everything moving. Most critical, and most expensive to replace. Protect it with regular maintenance.

🌀 Condenser Coil
Releases the heat pulled from inside your home into the outdoor air. Dirty coils = your system works harder, uses more energy, and wears out faster. Needs regular cleaning.

💨 Condenser Fan Motor
Pulls air through the condenser coil to push heat outside. If this fails, the system overheats and shuts down. One of the more common failure points we see.

⚡ Capacitor
Stores and releases electrical energy to start and run the compressor and fan motors. The #1 most common part to fail, but one of the cheapest fixes when caught early during a tune-up.

🔌 Contactor
An electrical switch that sends power to the compressor and fan. Worn contactors are a leading reason AC systems won't turn on, and most homeowners have never heard of it.
