Utilities are lobbying the state to make it harder and more expensive for people to get solar. They are trying to gut net metering, which lets solar users share their extra solar energy with the neighbors for a bill credit.

Here are 3 things you should know about financing your solar.

1. If you've ever got an estimate you may have been shocked at the price of going Solar, but have you ever thought about how much you are saving? The average system price is $21,000. That is a crazy number until you realize the average electricity bill is $150 a month. Over 25 years that's $45,000 going nowhere. Do you own your home? Why not own your power?

2. You can pay extra towards the system or even pay it off early and the price adjusts accordingly. If you put in an extra $5,000 one year, your monthly bill goes down.

3. With no down payment, loans at 1-3 percent with good credit, and low monthly payment, solar is a no brainer! Not to mention a 26% tax deduction off the cost of adding solar to your home. Once the system is paid off, you will be providing free electricity to your home (minus utility delivery costs of course).
