"Minnesota now has the nation’s most far-reaching ban on toxic “forever chemicals” in consumer products, so dental floss, children’s clothing, makeup and many other items you find on store shelves should be safe from PFAS." ....

"Minnesota’s law only addresses intentionally added PFAS, not chemicals that may have accidentally contaminated a product. State regulators have an unofficial threshold of 100 parts per million total organic fluorine, based on California regulations and scientific studies, that denotes “intentionally added.”
“Consumers have the right to know what they’re buying and what they’re exposing their kids to, and what they’re putting on their body,” said Avonna Starck, state director for Clean Water Action. “It makes me realize how much work we have to do.”"

The Star Tribune used a screening test similar to what the MPCA would. Some results were above the level that could trigger a state inquiry.

Any CEO who came in and did uninformed wholesale firings without considering the consequences and then having to immediately hire them back would be fired by their board of directors.

My friend, Vicki Spellman, would be a wonderful addition to the St Charles city council. She is running Alderperson for the 3rd Ward for a 4 year term. Bob Gehm is running for the unexpired 2 year term that he was appointed to.

You can vote for both of these people to represent the 3rd Ward.

Contact your representatives at all levels of government to remind them we need to act to minimize climate chaos and the effects on lives. We can't continue to ignore it.

Last year was another banner year for a source of electricity that is better for people’s lungs, better for climate change and may be reaching your home when you turn on the lights or turn up the thermostat — large banks of batteries.

The South Elgin neighborhood off McClean is drenched in Holcim quarry dust. Over the years we have seen the number of trucks in and out of the facility climb. Most do not bother covering their loads. There is also an Ozinga cement/concrete facility.

Concrete is responsible for over 7% of the CO2 produced globally. Several companies are working to trap (sequester) CO2 in concrete. Holcim is one of them, but not in South Elgin. Let's encourage companies to do this.

During my career as a scientist, a working mom and small business owner, the idea of running for public office never crossed my mind. Scientists don’t typically run for office. We work together to solve problems using data and logic—attributes that aren’t always associated with politics.

My perspective changed, however, in the spring of 2022 when yet another school shooting, this time in Uvalde, Texas, took the lives of 19 children and two teachers, followed closely by the U.S. Supreme Court’s devastating decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, impacting the rights of half the population. Standing at a courthouse vigil for the victims of mass shootings, I became determined to fight for safer communities, reproductive rights and a better life for all Illinois families. Running for office also would give me a platform to support my passion to fight for real climate change solutions, ones that would ensure a healthy planet for my grandchildren and the generations that follow.

Today, I humbly share that while we did not achieve the outcome we’d hoped for, our movement is far from over. Though I will not serve as your representative for Illinois’ 65th District this term, I am incredibly proud of the progress we made and the message we delivered. We got Rep. Ugaste’s attention, and he should rest-assured that we will continue to push him on issues that matter most to Illinois families.

This campaign was a testament to the power of community. Together, we knocked on nearly 20,000 doors, made thousands of phone calls, and sent voters handwritten postcards. We built connections with our neighbors and found common ground. Our activism should and must continue through calls and letters to Rep. Ugaste, our participation in the legislative process and continued outreach to our neighbors.

Though this race did not go our way, I am deeply grateful for every moment of support, time, and energy that you all shared. Together, we amplified the call for smart environmental actions, safe and affordable child care, tax reform for Illinois families, common-sense gun safety, and reproductive freedom for all. We also won’t forget our South Elgin neighbors living each day with dust and noise pollution from the nearby quarry. These issues remain critical, and so will our work to achieve the desired outcomes.

Sincerely,
Linda
