Fusarium is a soil-borne fungal disease that attacks the plant's water transport system, causing yellowing, wilting, stunting, and potentially plant death. Early identification is critical because the symptoms are often mistaken for watering or nutrient issues.
How to Confirm Fusarium:
A strong clue is cutting open the lower stem. Plants infected with Fusarium often have: 🟤 Brown or reddish-brown discoloration inside the stem's vascular tissue. This internal browning helps distinguish Fusarium from simple drought stress.
Why Growers Fear It-
Spreads through soil and water
Can survive many years without a host plant
Often mistaken for nutrient deficiencies or underwatering
Can kill plants even when soil appears moist.
Quick Grower Tip
If a plant is wilting but the soil is still wet, and you notice yellowing lower leaves and brown vascular tissue inside the stem, Fusarium should be on your list of suspects.
