In collaboration with the gracious team at the USS Midway Museum, we at DeepWater Exploration are excited to show you our first use of the exploreHDs on the hull of a ship.

To demonstrate the exploreHD's low-light capabilities, the ROV/underwater drone was deployed under the shadow cast by the ship's stern, without the use of external lights. Despite this, it is still possible to see patches of tubeworms growing, as well as identifying the various layers of paint on the hull!

We would like to thank the USS Midway Museum for allowing us to collect footage of their hull. If you haven't been, you won't regret checking out one of America's most unique aircraft carrier museums!

Our passion for uncompromised image quality for marine robotics is the simple philosophy behind the exploreHD Underwater USB Camera. This UVC compliant camera is the first of its kind to feature a high definition USB output while achieving a waterproof rating of IP69K. With the use of a modern Sony EXMOR sensor, this camera will be able to see in low light conditions like never before. Thanks to advanced automated exposure and white balance adjustments, this camera produces accurate colors and a pleasing natural image. With H.264 compression technology, multiple cameras can be connected at once and streamed via ethernet without major quality loss or latency. This makes our camera the perfect choice for advanced multi-cam ROV/AUV setups.

Today we are introducing a revolutionary software for cameras that will change the way that USB cameras are stream for underwater robotics! It installs alongside ArduSub Companion and provides user the ability to finely tune settings on the camera such as bitrate, H.264, and VBR (Variable Bitrate).

Adjusting bitrate will reduce the data streamed on the camera while turning on VBR will maximize the bitrate, providing users with the best quality video. We will be adding more features and camera support to this software in our next release!

Introducing the exploreHD 2.0!

Featuring a new housing design that improves on reliability, durability, and lens performance such as vignetting.

Additionally, the new housing is shorter, making it easier to install at different angles.

We are also introducing two new firmware for the camera, one designed for highest quality and another that uses advance H264 standard profile settings to reduce bandwidth to 10Mb/s (designed for streaming multiple exploreHD at once).

Customers can now choose the firmware from our DWE Firmware Loader application, available for free on our site.

The new exploreHD 2.0 will be ready to ship by the 20th of February!

After a customer request to use WetLink Penetrators on their cameras, DeepWater Exploration is stoked to report the 4.5mm WLP works on the exploreHD underwater camera cable! Now plug and play (!) with ArduSub, Companion, and Q Ground Control, this camera has an open-source driver, allowing up to four cameras to be connected and streamed at once!

We are super excited to hear WLPs are being shared and requested throughout the industry, and even more excited for potential collaborations with stellar companies like DeepWater Exploration.

What cables have you used with a WLP we don't even know about yet?! 🧐

The Fiber to Ethernet Converter Board is now in stock! Unlike other Fiber to Ethernet converter, they are designed specifically for ROV use cases. Their form factor is just under 3 by 2 inches (smaller than the Raspberry Pi!). They use high efficient power converters that draws less than 1W of power when transmitting gigabit (Tested with 3Km Range Transceivers). We now also offer the transceivers as a kit.
