On July 5, 2012, we received a phone call from the San Francisco Giants. Our practice has never been the same. What began as a request to design a dormitory for their academy in the Dominican Republic became the start of an extraordinary journey.
Since that day, we have designed and completed three full campuses—not just dormitories, but full training facilities and master plans—for three Major League Baseball clubs in the Dominican Republic. We began with our hometown Giants and have since completed facilities for the Miami Marlins and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

We cannot thank these ball clubs enough. It has been a dream to bring their visions to life.

Equally, we could never have realized these projects without the immense talent of our partner architect in the Dominican Republic, JMF Arquitectos . Led by the illustrious José Mella Febles, their team brought unmatched expertise in both baseball training facilities and the art of building in the Dominican Republic. Alongside José, key leaders Amelia Mella, Rafael Ramirez, and Annelisse Garrido played indispensable roles. We tip our hats to their remarkable energy and talent.

We were invited into this work because our home team wanted a small, local firm. Because of them, we now feel like Giants.

Chiaroscuro.
We approach design through subtlety—measured, intentional, and quiet.
Still, contrast plays an essential role.
Sometimes it appears as a counterbalance within the work; other times, we use it as a tool to test and clarify ideas.
In both cases, contrast helps bring the nuances into focus.

Somewhere on a remote island, a guest bed awaits, facing a stunning view across a harbor to the Ionian Ses.

Or it will soon, anyway, as this is a test rendering.

Somewhere half buried in a limestone cut 30 meters from a small beach harbor on the Ionian Sea…

It is fun to pay attention to how contractors use a site not when working but on their breaks.

Where you find the pile of cigarette butts or sunflower seed shells.

Where chairs are left and which direction they’re facing.

This is the primary bathroom which provides cool shelter and no view of the sea but of the sky.

Somewhere on a Greek island in the Ionian Sea,
a house is being constructed
with three volumes of light filled, cream colored marble all sourced from the tiny island.
Connecting the three volumes through the heart of the house is a hallway, the walls
clad in painted wood paneling in a fashion typically reserved for the ceilings of Corfu.
Dark slate blue wood and creamy marble, the moment provides a stark contrast and a shift of normal materials. Stone used in the light, open areas; wood used in the dark, closed areas.

A rendering, with more to come.

Last week, New York City showed us why it’s often called the City of Dreams.
We are beyond honored to have been named Best of Year by Interior Design Magazine in the Coffee/Tea design category. A global competition, this one floored us, as the competition is so amazingly good.
It was an incredible evening and a huge thank you goes out to Cindy Allen and Helene Oberman for putting on such an amazing evening and for all you do for the design industry.
Truly an evening we will remember.
And as always, thank you to for your vision and stamina.
The last photo is the award in the space with ‘s cortado, no sugar. We suggest you go by and try one.

Happy Holidays everyone!
