Its been a long time to discuss about Suntactics solar chargers. And have over 5K FB followers. Suntactics solar chargers had a good run starting in 2012. One late night in Sept 2010 googling, I noticed that 50 million iPhones were sold. Wow, lets make a solar charger to charge an iPhone! So I invented the sCharger-5. Made some prototypes, they sold instantly. I found a small mom and pop business to manufacture it here in San Jose CA. Over the next couple years 2012-2013 we sold over 4000 solar chargers. We then offered more additions, the sCharger-8 and sCharger-14. Grossed close to 500k in sales in 2013! Then the Mom of the business passed away from ovarian cancer. It turned downhill, the Pop of the busness(vietnam vet) had PTSD and was hard to work with. I decided to move on and opened my own manufacturing facility. 5 employees working hard to fulfill orders. Then China eventually copied my solar charger design. It dragged on for years. Sales slowing down more and more. Amazon also made more restrictive policies that hindered sales. I tried getting investors, got booths in trade shows, hired marketing and sales people, spent over 20K in marketing, paid workmans comp, insurance, rent. Could not compete. I insisted made in the USA. Did not pay off. In 2018 I moved out of my facility and into my home. I made the solar chargers myself for the next few years. Eventually I had to shut down operations end of 2022. Overall I sold over 35000 solar chargers. Pat on back. But pretty much gave away 35000 solar chargers for free in the end after all the overhead. Trying to "Made in the USA" does not work. But I did accomplish some pride and became somewhat a legend from my endurance hiker customers. Thank you so much for all your support over the years. Facebook!! I tried to post this earlier but it ended up in a comment post. Anyways, this is shot of a Suntactics solar tracker that was installed by a DIY customer in Alaska. They own a wilderness resort in Alaska www.shearwatercove.com The resort hosts a remote place where you can be one with nature but with all the amenities. Check it out.
