DON'T TOUCH THAT DIAL!

Things That Can Go Wrong When You Set Your AC Too Low...

When Southern California heats up, it's tempting to crank the thermostat way down. But setting your AC to 60F won't cool a 90F house any faster. It simply tells your system to keep running and running.

Pushing your AC too hard can cause:

Frozen evaporator coils - potentially leaving you with little or no cooling and forcing other components to work harder.
Unexpected breakdowns - often when you need your AC the most.
Higher electricity bills - longer run times mean more energy use.
Extra wear and tear - compressors, motors, and other components work harder.
Shortened system life - repeatedly overworking equipment can contribute to premature failure.

Keep it steady! If your AC is constantly running but your home isn't comfortable, lowering the thermostat even further isn't the answer.

Let AC Dave take a look!

Breathe Cleaner, Live Better With iWave Air Purifying Technology

Are You Looking For An Additional Level Of Indoor Air Protection?

Breathe Cleaner, Live Better with iWave Air Purifying Technology. The air inside your home should feel like a haven—but dust, allergens, odors, mold, bacteria, and other airborne particles can circulate through your HVAC system every day. Changing your filters regularly is an important first step, but homeowners seeking an additional level of indoor air protection may want to consider iWave Air Purifying Technology. Unlike a portable air purifier that treats only one room,

iWave is installed directly into your HVAC system

This allows it to work throughout your home whenever air is circulating. How Does iWave Work? iWave uses ionization technology to help improve indoor air quality. As air passes through your heating and cooling system, iWave generates ions that travel through the occupied space. These ions can help particles such as dust and allergens cluster together, making them easier for your HVAC filtration system to capture. Depending on the iWave product and application, the technology is also designed to help reduce certain airborne particles, odors, and microorganisms as part of an overall indoor air quality strategy. Because the system integrates with your existing HVAC equipment, there are no bulky portable units cluttering your home.

Could iWave Be Right for Your Home?

Southern California homes face many indoor-air challenges—from dust and seasonal allergens to wildfire smoke, pet dander, and everyday household odors. While no air-cleaning product can eliminate every contaminant or guarantee that you won't experience allergies or illness, improving filtration and air purification can be an important part of creating a cleaner, more comfortable indoor environment. AC Dave Heating & Air can inspect your existing HVAC system, discuss your indoor-air concerns, and determine whether iWave technology is suitable for your home.

Do You Know Your Parts?

Whether you have a traditional central HVAC system or a ductless mini-split, each part plays an important role. Knowing how these parts work together can help you spot potential problems before they lead to costly repairs. Dirty filters and coils, clogged drain lines, failing capacitors, blower issues, and low refrigerant levels can all reduce efficiency, affect your comfort, and shorten the life of your HVAC system.

August Tips - From AC Dave Heating & Air - Serving Our Community Since 2006

The month of August can be brutal on your family's comfort, your home, and your wallet. A few simple housekeeping tasks now can help prevent costly repairs later.

Check or replace your HVAC filter to improve airflow, lower energy bills, and protect your system.

Keep at least 2 feet of clearance around your outdoor AC unit by trimming grass, weeds, and shrubs.

Freshen your garbage disposal with hot water, baking soda, and vinegar to reduce odors.

If you have a septic system, don't forget your monthly treatment.

Test your smoke detectors and check that your fire extinguisher is fully charged.

Clean and sanitize your trash and recycling bins to reduce bacteria, odors, and insects.

Watch for ants, termites, rodents, and other destructive pests, and treat problems early.

The best way to stay comfortable at home is to avoid a summer breakdown. Regular HVAC maintenance costs less than a major repair job later. A professional tune-up helps improve efficiency and extends the life of your equipment.

When Was The Last Time You Checked Your HVAC Air Filter?

Not The Most Exciting, But Maybe The Most Important

It may not be the most exciting household task, but changing your HVAC filter is one of the simplest and most important things you can do to protect your home, your health, and your heating and cooling system. Let me explain...

A clogged air filter restricts airflow - forcing your HVAC system to work harder. That extra strain can lead to higher energy bills, reduced comfort, unnecessary wear and tear, and, in some cases, costly repairs or even premature system failure.
A dirty air filter can no longer effectively capture dust, pollen, pet dander, and other airborne particles. Those contaminants can aggravate allergies, asthma, and other respiratory conditions - especially for children, seniors, and anyone with existing health concerns.

The filter shown in the photo is an example of the type of filters we come across daily. It's a great reminder that what you can't always see can have a big impact on your home's air quality and your system's performance.

What we recommend

Here are AC Dave's recommendations:

Check your HVAC filter every 30 days.
Replace it every 1-3 months - or more if you have pets, allergies, live in a dusty area, or have had fires in your region.
Buy the correct-sized filter: Never guess the filter size. The dimensions are usually printed on the side of the old filter (for example: 16 x 25 x 1, or 20 x 20 x 4).
Don't always buy the Highest-Rated Filter - Many homeowners think the most expensive filter is the best. That's not always true.
MERV 6-8: Good for most homeowners without pets or allergies
MERV 8-11: A great choice for most families with pets.
MERV 11-13: Excellent for allergy sufferers- but only if the HVAC system is designed to handle the increased airflow resistance.
AC Dave Tip:

A filter that's too restrictive can reduce airflow and actually harm system performance.

It's a Small Investment with a HUGE Impact
Following these simple guidelines is a small investment that can help:
Lower Energy Bills
Improve indoor air quality
Increase System Efficiency
Extend The Life of Your HVAC Equipment
Keep Your Family Breathing Cleaner, Healthier Air

Keeping Pets Cool This Summer - It's More Important Than You Might Think

Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy the outdoors with our pets; however, soaring temperatures can quickly become dangerous. Unlike people, dogs and cats cannot cool themselves efficiently, making them especially vulnerable to heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

If It's Too Hot For You, It's Too Hot For Them!

If the pavement or sidewalk is too hot for the back of your hand, it's too hot for their paws. Make sure your pets always have access to fresh, cool water, and a cool place indoors during the hottest parts of the day. Early mornings or late evening walks are the safest option. A well-placed fan or well-maintained air conditioning system can make all the difference in keeping them comfortable. Also consider cooling mats. These are incredible and can be a Godsend for your fur-babies.

Cool Treats Are Always a Great Option.

Cooling your pet from the inside is just as important as cooling them from the outside. Offer them frozen treats such as seedless watermelon, blueberries, banana slices, apple pieces, or plain pumpkin puree, all frozen into bite-sized portions. Freeze low-sodium chicken broth into ice cubes for a tasty summer snack, or mix plain yogurt with pet-friendly fruit and freeze it into a refreshing "Pupsicle".

For Our Feline Friends and Other Pet Varieties

Cats often enjoy frozen tuna water cubes or chilled wet food. Rabbits love refrigerated leafy greens and frozen water bottles wrapped in a towel to lean against. Birds appreciate fresh fruit, a shallow bath, and a gentle misting. Even our smaller pets need some summer support. For hamsters, lay a few ceramic tiles on the bottom of their cage and place a frozen water bottle wrapped in cloth beside their enclosure to lean on.

A message from AC Dave Heating & Air

NEVER leave unaccompanied children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a minute. On warm days, the temperature inside a car can become life-threatening in just a few minutes, even with the windows cracked. In California, this can carry a hefty penalty as it endangers the life of your children and pets.

If your AC Is Not operating efficiently, Give Us a Call

And finally, if your home is not cooling efficiently and you have completed the usual checks- changed your filters, checked your thermostat and batteries, and ensured your vents are clear- call AC Dave Heating & Air: Tel 661 270 1961. Our goal is to ensure every home we visit is comfortable for the entire family, including your Fur-Babies.

Extreme Heat, Power Outages & Staying Safe: What Every Southern California Homeowner Should Know!

Flex Alerts or Public Safety Power Shutoffs

Southern California is no stranger to summer heat, but when temperatures soar into the triple digits, our electrical grid is placed under tremendous strain. During periods of extreme demand, Southern California Edison may issue Flex Alerts or Public Safety Power Shutoffs to help reduce the risk of equipment failures and wildfires.

While none of us enjoys losing power, a little preparation can make a big difference.

Here are a few simple ways to help keep your family comfortable and safe if the lights go out:

Stay Hydrated: Drink water regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty. Avoid excessive alcohol, sugary drinks, and too much caffeine, as they can contribute to dehydration.
Keep the Heat Out: Close blinds, curtains, doors, and windows during the hottest part of the day. Once temperatures begin to drop in the evening, open doors and windows to encourage natural airflow.
Dress for the Weather: Choose lightweight, loose-fitting light-colored clothing to help your body regulate its temperature more efficiently.
Protect Your Food: Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. Every time they're opened, valuable cold air escapes.
Foods That Help Keep You Cool: Watermelon, Strawberries, Blueberries, Pineapple, Oranges, Grapes (served chilled), Cucumbers, Lettuce, and other leafy greens. Heavy, greasy meals can make your body work harder, leaving you even hotter. Instead, opt for salads, fresh fruit, smoothies, and wraps.
What About Your Pets?

Our furry family members are just as vulnerable, if not more, to heat. Make sure they have plenty of fresh water, shade, and a cool place to rest. If at all possible, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS OUTSIDE!

Check on Others!

Take a few moments to check on elderly or infirm neighbors. These are vulnerable in extreme weather conditions, and they feel like a burden if they ask for help. Please, be that good Samaritan - One day, this could be you!

More Extreme Weather Condition Tips From AC Dave

Many emergency service calls during the summer can actually be prevented with routine maintenance:

Change your filters: A clean air filter improves airflow, helps your system run more efficiently, and extends the life of your equipment.
If your AC suddenly stops working, but the neighborhood still has power, check your electrical breaker panel. If, however, the breaker continues to trip, that could be a sign that you need to call a professional.
Stay Informed

At AC Dave Heating & Air, we believe the best service isn't just fixing air conditioners; it's helping our community stay informed, prepared, and safe during Southern California's hottest days. A little preparation today can make tomorrow much more comfortable.

Is Your AC Trying to tell you Something?

Most air conditioners don't suddenly stop working-they usually try to warn you first.

Perhaps you've noticed a buzz, a bang, a click, a squeal, or even a hiss from your outdoor unit. The real question is... Do you know which noises could end up costing you hundreds or even thousands of dollars if ignored?

One Noise vs. Another

Some noises can be caused by something as simple as a loose component or a part beginning to wear out. If caught early, these repairs are often straightforward and far less expensive. Other sounds, however, can indicate more serious problems involving electrical components, failing motors, or refrigerant issues. Left unchecked, a small problem today can quickly become a major repair, or worse, leave you without air conditioning during the hottest weeks of summer.

AC Dave Tests Your HVAC Knowledge

Here at AC Dave Heating & Air, we like to educate and test our customers' knowledge in fun ways. Feel free to play along: Can you correctly identify what each of the five sounds might mean before turning your phone upside-down to reveal the answers?"

Were You Correct?

If you guessed them all correctly-CONGRATULATIONS! You might have just saved yourself a costly repair one day. If, however, any of these sounds seem familiar, do not wait until your AC stops working completely. Having it checked out sooner rather than later could save you money, prevent a breakdown, and give you peace of mind.

AC Dave Heating & Air Gives You Cooling Tips for The Upcoming Heatwave.

Temperatures are Rising

As temperatures climb, it's important to remember that a heatwave is more than just uncomfortable; it can become dangerous very quickly. Young children, older adults, people with medical conditions, outdoor workers, and pets are especially vulnerable. A few simple precautions can make a big difference in keeping your family safe and comfortable.

Be Prepared

One of the best ways to prepare is to ensure your air conditioning system is running efficiently before the hotter days arrive. A clean, properly maintained HVAC system operating at peak performance not only helps keep your home comfortable, but also reduces energy costs and lessens the chance of an unexpected breakdown when you need it the most.

Tips for Staying Cool

Keep your thermostat set at 78 degrees Fahrenheit while you are home.
Use ceiling fans to help circulate cool air.
Keep Blinds and curtains closed to block direct sunlight.
Seal gaps around windows and doors to prevent cool air from escaping.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day (avoid sugary drinks).
Avoid strenuous outdoor activities in the afternoon when temperatures peak.
Check regularly on elderly neighbors, friends, and family members who may need assistance.
Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle - Not even for a few minutes.

Protect Your Comfort This Summer

Regular HVAC maintenance is one of the smartest investments you can make. A professional inspection can identify any issues (if any exist) ahead of the heatwave, improve efficiency, help lower your bills, and reduce the likelihood of costly emergency repairs when you need your AC most.
