🌀 Hurricane Season & Your HVAC System 🌀

Preparing your home for a hurricane means more than stocking up on water and batteries—your air-conditioning system needs protection, too!

Before the storm:

✅ Replace your air filter so your system can run efficiently
✅ Clear leaves, branches and loose items away from the outdoor unit
✅ Secure outdoor furniture and decorations that could become airborne
✅ Install surge protection to help protect your HVAC equipment from power fluctuations
✅ Cool your home a few degrees lower in case the power goes out—but never set the thermostat below 68°F

During the storm, do not cover or operate an outdoor unit if flooding or standing water is present. If you lose power, turn your thermostat off so the system doesn’t immediately restart when electricity is restored.

After the storm, check the outdoor unit for damage, debris or flooding before turning it back on. If the equipment was exposed to water or appears damaged, have it inspected by a licensed HVAC professional.

A little preparation can help prevent expensive damage and keep your family comfortable after the storm passes.
