A rare PDS (Particularly dangerous situation) severe thunderstorm watch was issued for areas over the Dakotas, eastern Montana and northeastern Wyoming until 10pm tonight.

A bowing line of severe thunderstorms will likely form and has the atmosphere for some very destructive winds to 100mph.

Hail up to 2" in diameter and a few tornadoes are also possible.

[06/07] 5pm SUN•Strong Tstorms continue-

A cluster of strong thunderstorms continues to push northwest at 25mph...they have since weakened a bit but additional development will be likely on outflow boundaries. Small hail, gusty winds and very heavy rainfall will continue to be likely with these thunderstorms.

A second cell west of Belgrade has the potential for dime size hail and 40mph winds...this is also moving northwest.

529pm- A strong thunderstorm over Douglas and Pope counties has the potential for 0.50" hail and 45mph winds. Very heavy rainfall is also occurring.

[06/07] 423pm SUN•Strong Tstorms in central MN-

A line of strong thunderstorms are currently over parts of Meeker, Wright and just entering Stearns county....moving northwest at 25mph. 0.50" in diameter hail, 50mph wind gusts and extremely heavy rainfall is likely. This will continue to wrap around to the northwest but will also drift north along an outflow boundary.

Flash flooding is a potential issue due to the slow movement of these stroms. Down south of the Twin Cities metro .....4 to 5" has fallen in the past few hours.

[06/07] 306pm SUN•Current radar w/ surface observations-

Thunderstorms over southern Minnesota are pushing northwest from Willmar to southeast Minnesota...training over the same areas causing flash flooding issues. Flash flooding warnings are in place for Freeborn and Steele counties in southern Minnesota.

Ongoing thunderstorms will have very heavy rainfall with several inches possible in a short period of time, small hail and gusty winds.

These are moving northwest but are also drifting to the north. It's unknown how far these will make it... I'd say once daytime heating is lost, they will weaken and diminish. Overnight tonight into Monday morning, more isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms are likely across our area.

Yay! Flight returns at around 840pm tonight. Of course, it'll probably be storming...turbulence should be AWEEEE-some!! 😖😖💀💀💀

Send help!!!

▪︎▪︎Today through Wednesday-Severe weather outlook▪︎▪︎

-Today-
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across southern Minnesota late this afternoon...lifting north. These should be scattered, non severe thunderstorms but some small hail could accompany the stronger cells. These will continue into Sunday night and possibly into Monday morning.

-Monday-
Continued isolated showers and maybe a few thunderstorms will linger around central Minnesota for the 1st half of the day before we see some clearing. If the sun is able to break through the clouds, we could see some pop up, slow moving thunderstorms for Monday evening. These should stay below severe limits.

-Tuesday-
Most of the day should remain dry for our area with thunderstorms developing in the Dakotas by mid afternoon. These will likely become severe quickly. These could be intense thunderstorms with very large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes all look possible with initial development before growing upscale into clusters or line segments. This will increase the risk for damaging winds as these storms spread east through the Red River Valley into western Minnesota. The intensity of these storms are uncertain for our area. It does look like these will be weakening as they move into Minnesota...But there will be at least a isolated threat of severe weather through Wednesday morning.

-Wednesday-
A concentrated area of potentially significant severe weather is expected Wednesday afternoon and evening, centered across portions of central Minnesota into Wisconsin. Initial storms should develop by early afternoon from the Red River Valley into central Minnesota. Subsequent storms are likely to develop across southern Minnesota into Iowa by mid to late afternoon. Conditions will be supportive of supercells and bowing line segments, capable of all severe weather threats.

^^Changes to Wednesday^^
Models are trending to a slightly faster progression of a lead short-wave trough, leading to a eastern push for the more significant severe weather threat.
